Unrealistic expectations for 71 20hp johnson?

Yep....first thing to do us a compression test, get a portable teach to check rpm at wot. Get motor running right then select proper pitch to get max rpm. By any chance is the hull or foam waterlogged and holding extra water ?

    What size bennet slts.

Any pics to share ? Is the fuel tank in the rear ? My Sylvan has the 18 gallon tank in the floor on center about 3/4 of the way back and it balances very well. They do make props that are designed to give more bow lift, but for now....what is your RPM at wot ? Pics from the side showing the...

    Contour maps?

On my unit, I can choose different pages and settings to view. The contour images only show on certain pages. It has taken me a couple years to figure out all the bells and whistles. If it shows the body of water you are on, then go thru the menu and settings and you might very well find...

    Type of boat

If the motor runs and the trailer is decent you have some value there to recoup. Sorry for all the bad news, but here, we tell it like it is, not always what a poster wants to hear. This is why the forum encourages people to ask questions before they purchase a boat if they do not have a lot...

    Contour maps?

My Low dance HD 7 is a 2013 model and previous owner bought a North America card and installed it ...it shows everything in north America from contours to roads. Only guessing that he bought it from Lowrance, I would call them first.

    Type of boat

The reason no one wants it, is because it is a fiberglass boat. Lots of labor and expense to make it seaworthy. Far more costly to update than it could ever be sold for, so nobody will be unterested. Unfortunately it will also be expensive to get rid of it even at a junk yard. Looks less me...

    Non-skid for aluminum floors

Consider getting a rubber horse stall mat. Put one in my side x side bed years ago and it works perfect. You do need to allow some air under it, so I bought some left over mesh made from plastic that is used when pouring concrete to keep it from seperating when it cracks. About a 1 1/2" mesh...

Replacement folding seats with good hinges?

Not only can the hinges be weak, but most lower priced seats have thin 3/8" plywood or particle board for the base and seat back. Over the years, I have found that gives way long before the hinges. the last seats I bought have heavy plastic hinges and bases, hoping they last longer than the...

Replacement folding seats with good hinges?

Good seats are pricey, but not sure you will find a real quality seat that narrow. Most good seats I have found are much wider and can cost near 4-500 per seat ! Check out Overton's or other marine parts dealers for their better seats.

    Hull cleaning

Can't speak for salt water, but in the fresh water around me, the spraying auto waxes from Turtle wax works well. It only lasts a few weeks or mabey a month but I can do my 16' deep V in about 15 minutes. Buffing adds another 10 min if I decide to even buff the sides. It sure makes the crud...

    Hull cleaning

Neighbors use "Lysol rust and stain remover" for toilet bowls. Squirt it on, use a soft scrubber like used to get bugs off your windshield, to smear it around. The crud just melts off within minutes. I have used it on my painted aluminum hull on some really tough stains and it worked great...

    Boat Cover

If you are going to trailer with the cover on, then get a custom made cover....costly yes, but they will last far longer. Already made over the counter covers are great if not towing, but the towing does create excessive wear and tear on a cover so fit becomes critical !

Best way to fasten bow rails?

When I mounted my tree kickers in my side x side, I used rivnuts and coated the outside with " goop". After it dried they have never come loose even removing the kick bars for cleaning. Mounted them in 2019 and still solid.

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

You will need to look far and wide, but they are out there. There are some nice used motors if your willing to shop hard, drive long distances, be ready to buy when one shows up. Might have to buy a donor bought to get an engine. Drove 200 more less each way when I bought my like new old boat...
