Topped off battery with Distilled water....Why not with battery acid???? Opinions???

Out of boredom on a lousy lousy weather day yesterday,I climbed inside the shrink-wrap of my Grady white and checked the levels on one of my batteries. The 2 outside fills were lower than the rest.I added a few ounces of distilled water in each. Curious if I could have used battery acid from an...

Outdrive will not go back into transom

But is the shifter straight??? Or off center as Bt.Doc has noticed. If it is not straight ,it may get hung up on the slotted guide under the bell housing exhaust port.Charlie

Outdrive will not go back into transom

I am guessing that your shift lever/shoe is not entering the guide on the bottom of the bell housing cleanly.Possibly the lever/shoe is not perfectly straight when in fwd .This will stop the drive from advancing the exact amount you are experiencing.Charlie

Outdrive will not go back into transom

What I am seeing in your 1st pic is pretty common.Happens to me most times I install and turning the prop usually gets it much closer.Dont expect the drive to go all the way on without tightening the nuts.Make sure the drive is not popping out of fwd during install. What are you doing to make...

swap a microwave for a larger refrigerator

Small drawer type of refrigerator??? What is that?? I would always welcome a larger fridge but a microwave is a very handy thing to have and I would not sacrifice it for a larger fridge on my boat. You can always use a cooler or plug in cooler if you need extra room but everyone is different...

Anodes for Yamaha outboard...Zinc or Aluminum?

YES,that used to be the general guideline and still is except in situations in marinas that have a lot of boats plugged into shore power and outdrives ,transom plates, lift cylinders all get some of the current and can deteriorate .Sometimes quickly. The zinc is supposed to take the brunt of it...

modify my boat trailer for a longer boat

The winch support can be moved up and the "super light boat w/o motor can overhang some at the stern.I would load the boat onto the modified trailer and see how everything sits. Less of an issue if you are not towing far or not highway driving.Pay some attention to the beam.Bigger boat is gonna...

Anodes for Yamaha outboard...Zinc or Aluminum?

No corrosion issues but I am in salt water and the zincs SHOULD have some deterioration on them.Switching to aluminum (a less noble metal) should attract any stray current and protect my Yamaha better. Mercruiser has just about totally switched to aluminum anodes for better protection.I think...

Anodes for Yamaha outboard...Zinc or Aluminum?

2000 200hp saltwater series outboard. Has the standard zinc bar under the trim setup and skeg/fin also zinc. I have had same ones for 4 years with absolutely so deterioration at all. I clean them up on my grinding wheel upon spring commissioning.I am considering switching to aluminum anodes for...

    Bilge Pump Upgrade

Ohhhh you trailer it !!! That makes your 3 bilge pump setup totally overkill. Better too many than too few, lol. As long as you trailer home (after hosing down ) with drain plug pulled and get the tongue as high as possible once you get home. After all is dry ,pull it into the garage .Charlie

    Bilge Pump Upgrade

Not necessarily.....Rain and wash down water can easily get into the bilge and quite often does. I would keep the original pump hooked up to keep the bilge dry as possible.I assume you have a float switch on that pump???? Not only does the Sahara style pumps you installed leave a decent amount...

Bimini top seems to have shrunk

I am seeing your eisenglass/clear plastic windows are attaching to your windshield.Plastic windows will shrink when not installed and will cause problems in your case with you taking them down after every use.My setup is very similar to yours and it is very difficult to set up for the 1st time...

    Bilge Pump Upgrade

A contributing reason for you now having some water in the bilge is the type of bilge pump you chose to use. That style of pump won't prime until there is quite a bit of water in the bilge and will shut down while there is still water in the bilge.Your boat is safe with that set up but for a dry...

    Hatch Locks

These type locks have a very simple design little key and the key is either universal or semi universal. Keys are most likely available on eBay.I have purchased universal keys on eBay for my riding tractor lawn mower, Evinrude outboard, Yamaha outboard and these keys are much more of a technical...
