The internal contacts are likely dirty.----Some of those can be taken apart for cleaning or just flush it with some cleaning agent ( alcohol ? )----Model # of the motor?---A 1972 model 85 / 100 / 125 HP ?

Also need to remove the much mis-understood pulse limiter.----Plug that port.----The pulse limiter is a flow fuse for the VRO.---Not needed with the simple pump.

Well----I looked at 2 of these filter housings.----2 of many that I have.----Clearly there are arrows.-----The one furthest from block shows IN---And one closest to the block shows OUT ----So best to look at yours more closely.

???----The upper needle is the slow speed mixture.-----The bottom is the high speed mixture.-----There is no " other jet" on this simple carburetor.----Take a look at the coils.----They are likely cracked as all of the original coils did.----Do a complete evaluation BEFORE spending beer tokens...

The correct way is 438556 !!---And I clearly stated that it mounts directly over the pulse port on the intake manifold.----Used on the 88 HP models.

???----Where on the carburetor is the ---" other jet "----Picture please.=====Low speed is 1-1/2 out from seated.----High speed is 3/4 out.-----The motor will start / run with those settings.-----You MUST fine tune on the water!-----And how did this motor run for you last season ??

any arrows on the filter?---I might look at one here once daylight arrives.

Get the fuel pump that attaches directly over the pulse port on the intake.----Look for it just in front of the starter.----438556

Not sure what you are saying about a " float catching"----Used factory carburetor kit or something cheaper?

Must be a leak near the waterline.-----Any pictures of transom.-----Livewell leaking ?

A light MIST of fuel?-----Post actual compression value here.-----What type of fuel pump ( part # ) is on this motor?-----How did the motor run for you last season?

Get a survey done.

Just needs a good prep and paint I think.

Local contractor with a backhoe can lift it in and out.

The wonderful " Magflash " ignition system came out on the 1971 model 50 HP .-----The 3 cylinders used it starting in 1972 .---The 4 cylinder in 1973.----It never used a " wasted spark " on any of them.-----Parts / pieces changed over the years , but not the theory of operation did not.
