Cobalt 226 vs 220 or something else..

my buddy with a B3 slip kept uses two mercathodes one under the transom hsg where the annode goes, another with two pucks on the transom . The newer (i think after 98) B3 have two annodes under the cav plate as well and tend to do better. Just watch it as you go along as they are a corrosion issue

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

?? you went from a 19" pitch to another 19" pitch based off the what you just posted. if I recall from here the ballistic props are hit or miss on a particular boat. if I recall it has the clipped ends to the blades? try a 17 it may be cheapest part of the parts cannon.

Upgrade to 4bbl, what about throttle cable bracket?

yes that is it I used it for the same thing when converting from 2 bbl mercarb to a edelbrock 1409. the solenoid and Cb mounted perfectly. What carb are you running? I was able to take the parts (stud) off the throttle arm on the old carb to mesh with the throttle cable , just had to adjust...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

Thanks for sharing your experience on this thread - 100% Agreed on the prop pitch. Most folks think taxing the engine less by going higher pitch/lower rpm and its the opposite. I have propped all my boats so lightly loaded I can tap the rev limiter trimmed up and WOT. Not that you have to drive...

    Stuck oil filter

I bought similar ones like that and a beefy ($$) strap wrench was well worth the money as I maintain 5 cars plus the boat and 3 tractors.

    2005 Mercruiser 5.0L MPI (Bravo 3) - Question about changing Mainfolds/Elbows

it would seem that sierra has chitty machining of the threads - they should be NPT pipe threads get a tap kit for NPT and chase them. If find this with pipe and other industrial fittings the threads suck these days, like everyone is using worn or beat up tooling

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

I wouldn't be pulling the intake at this point nothing points to that if there is no vacuum leak at the gaskets. you have low vacuum at idle but the idle rpm is normal? I assume there is something like a IAC valve that regulates idle RPM what is that doing? if closed all the way and still...

    1988 Quadrajet and gasket issues

MM uses a cast iron manifold with that fits bore sq and spreadbore carbs with no adpater. The eddy 1409 bolts up with a std gasket. I think this is similar to eddy manifolds that fit both as well. zero issues with vacuum leaks since 2016

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

When I bought a repower partial engine from them in 2016 they had a hard on for the TB system and were pushing me towards a Delco est. I wanted the TB so I wouldnt have to splice my harness for the delco, which ultimately they provided a new take off TB dizzy and module, which has worked...

    1992 OMC 3.0 Cracked Block

Hard to say with out the parts in front of you. Def more work to change it over- if you already have the carb redone just swap the long blocks then. Did you clean the fuel tank and replace the lines? highly likely due to age there is some contamination and you dont want to pollute the carb...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

it depends on what block they used for a core. the block with out the fuel pump provision have the boss cast just not drilled so they can be drilled out for a mechanical fuel pump. I would wait for the seller to confirm. I have yet to own a boat with too much power so if it were me I would do...

    1988 Quadrajet and gasket issues

thicker gasket is often used to insulate the carb from heat soak and associated issues. Typically on intakes and spacers and open hole will give some plenum volume and shift power band higher in rpm but with a 1/4" spacer gasket I wouldn't worry about it, not practical difference. the...

    Scissors-like abnormal noise from 5.7

blue smoke on start is usually indicative of valve guide seals leaking oil down in combustion chambers while it sits. How many hours on it ? Have you done a compression test to see if it is mechanically in good shape. bottom line I wouldn't sweat oil smoke at start up yet, just indicative of...

    1992 OMC 3.0 Cracked Block

really depends so of the early cobras had teething issues and gave the brand a bad name. Biggest issue is parts and service availability. the transom keyhole is the same so if you have the complete merc pulleys to prop I would consider it. 1993 is the alpha gen 2 drive which is current as still...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

good catch yes vacuum at idle should be higher than throttle open near WOT should be less than 3" would think

Bass boat trim authority sucks in mid range

meaning the motor is low? I think the cav plate is normally even with bottom of hull. Unless it is set back. If the motor is on the low side then you can rule it out and get a prop that bites better in aerated water. the rev 4 is excellent for this. A lot of folks talk chit on 4 blades but...
