1978 Mercury 70hp Worth Messing With?

Reed blocks on the inline Mercs were placed between cylinders. The reed blocks had petals on each side allowing air/fuel to pass into each cylinder's crankcase. The reed blocks also had concentric rings of aluminum on the parts that ringed the crankshaft. These acted as seals between the...

Sylvan Swim Ladder Strap Replacement - Cant find this exact setup?

Gee, a piece of web strap (Nylon, not polyester), and a couple of ss snaps should do it. Amazon should have both for short $.

    Boat doesn't rise. Prop issue?

You want to trim up until the prop ventilates and then down a bit until she bites the water. A lot of motors will only trim up a specified amount, before stopping. Sometimes this can be adjusted.

    Boat doesn't rise. Prop issue?

There are at least three reasons for low or no bow rise. The first is a hook in the hull. The hook will deflect water downward at the stern, lifting it and pushing the bow down. The second reason is some sort of appliance at the stern, again deflecting water downward at the stern. Does the...

    Tilt/trim problem

Is the release valve tight? If so, a leak past the piston seal would cause that, but i would need to be a pretty bad leak.

1978 Mercury 70hp Worth Messing With?

I assume you tested for power at the #2 coil primary? A standard voltmeter may not show the quick pulse that fires the coil. You might swap coils and see if spark returns to #2. If so, replace the coil. If not the stator or CDI unit is likely bad. There should be ohm specs for the stator.

    Swim Platform Slap - Reduce?

I live on the Bay. Water slapping can be soothing, after you get used to it.

Gee, how do you define "Support for Johnson/evinrude"? They have been out of business for a long time. Dealerships are closed. Parts are avail via mail order. Mercury is still in business. Dealers will tease you for having an old motor, but will mostly help.

15hp gamefisher wiring diagram? model 225.581508

A lot of wiring diagrams for different engines are pretty similar. Maybe you can get an idea how yours is wired. Are you sure it is a Force/Chrysler? A lot of the Gamefishers were Eska or Tecumseh, and some were Johnny's.

Check the engine wiring harness, especially the quick disconnect plug. Look for insulation that is falling off. I would expect ign and carb parts to be avail, as well as normal maintenance stuff.

2001 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL cracked block

Gee, the antifreeze does not go where expected. Can you trust that it gets the important parts? If you want your block drained of water on a V6, pull the 4 or 6 plugs. Dump antifreeze into block thru all openings, which includes all hoses. Watch for it to emerge from the water intake grates...

2001 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL cracked block

You realize that draining the block and manifolds and refilling them with A-F is all that is sufficient to keep the block from freezing. Running on the muffs with A-f introduced, doesn't hardly do anything, right? It simply mixes the A-F with the block water, which then you drain and refill.

Evinrude E90ELEUC RPM issue while running.

OK, you have a fuel restriction, air leak into the fuel line or a fuel pump that is not working properly. What kind of fuel filters do you have? Outboard often have fuel screens. My '98 Johnny 150HPV6 has a screen under the airbox. Some fuel tank pickup tubes have a filter hidden inside them.

Evinrude E90ELEUC RPM issue while running.

The prop should have a set of pat numbers on it. It may be under the trash at the prop nut or on the side of the hub.

When she bogs, try pumping the primer bulb. If that fixes it, you have a fuel delivery issue.

2001 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL cracked block

Gee, sorry that happened. Water is tricky and can get trapped in areas of the block. I always filled my block with straight automotive antifreeze for winter, since I was always uneasy about water hiding somewhere. The good news is that rebuilt blocks are plentiful and relatively cheap. On...

    80 HP Mercury trim

Trim limit switches are nice to have, but most boats do not need them, as the prop will ventilate, before the trim gets to it's limit. You can test your boat to see if this is true for you.

    trailer spindle nut

If you cannot take the play out of the bearing, without tightening it enough to bind, the bearing is bad and should be replaced. After you have set the bearing nut, and if the bearing is good, spin the tire. It should come to a stop very gradually, and ideally, spin backward. If it stops...

    Tilt/trim problem

Run the PTT motor in the up direction, grab the gearcase and lift it. Use the manual tilt lock to hold the gearcase in the tilted position. Let her sit 5 min and refill. Now unlock the manual tilt lock, run the PTT motor in the down direction and lower the gearcase. Repeat a few times. That...
