Have you checked Sterndrive Engineering SEI? They make brand-new replacement gearcases for poplar outboards and outdrives. A new gearcase for my Merc V6 is $1195. They have some Johnnyrude gearcases as well.
I had some more aggressive funds years ago, before retirement. They went way up and way down on a weekly basis. I decided that slow and steady up was best for me. I also do not want to spend the time and effort to watch and react to the market fluctuations.
Also, if you are buying and...
Mercury used to sell replacement skegs. I had one welded onto my gearcase some years ago. Some welders wanted me to drain and disassemble the gearcase because of the welding heat. Luckily, a local welder with more experience and skill, trimmed the gearcase and new skeg to match and welded it...
Gee, I pick out some mutual funds from top companies (fidelity, Swab, T Rowe Price, Vanguard, etc.) that fit my investment strategy (very conservative) and look up their loads. If too high, I pick another fund. I then leave 'em alone.
Pull the rubber sleeves off the risers and look at the place where the cooling water mixes with the exhaust. They tend to rot/rust out there first, in my experience.
In full salt water, risers/mannys tend to last 8 years of so. If you do remove the risers from the manifolds, clean up the...
Traditional IRAs and 401Ks are tax deferred, such that they are funded with pre-tax $ and you pay income tax on whatever you withdraw.
Roth IRAs are funded with after tax $ and you pay no income tax, when you withdraw the $. If you convert an IRA/401K into a Roth IRA, you pay income taxes on...
You can have multiple traditional IRAs, 401Ks and Roth IRAs. These can be Individual (yours) or "managed" by an employer.
If they are of the same type, separate IRAs and 401Ks can be merged as you like. i.e. you can merge different employers IRAs and 401Ks into an individual account. Make...
Gee, I am not sure I understand your post. The housing is NLA, but the internet may have a used one somewhere. You may even find a used exhaust extension. i.e. I found a swivel pin for my '93 Merc V6 in Green Bay, after the original rusted away in the salt water here in NJ, so you never know...
If the hull needs waterproofing, why not use polyester resin and cloth where necessary? Bedliner would be a mess and not provide good waterproofing, I would think.
To fix it, can't you bolt or weld a 3/8" thick aluminum panel to the transom, gunwale to gunwale? Maybe remove the knees, and put the panel on the inside of the transom, and then replace the knees?
I do not have any experience on your motor. However I have had IL6 motors from the same era, which have mostly the same design. If the copper water tube pulls out of the seal in the exhaust extension (under the powerhead), it is real hard to get it back in properly, without pulling the...
The serial number (Maxrules) puts it at 1982.
The question is whether it is a derated 150HP TOP with the power ported pistons and block, or the std. 115HP TOP. If the HP is measured at the prop it could be the derated 150HP engine.
Gee, see if the powerpack has the yellow/red wire from the starter solenoid feeding it with power. A wiring diagram will show it clearly, if it exists.
On my Johnny 150, the yellow/red wire from the primary starter solenoid terminal runs to the ign keyswitch and the powerpack. If provides voltage to the powerpack, when the motor is cranking.
Some of the powerpacks used on Johnnyrudes use battery voltage when cranking, like my J150EXECD. When the starter stops, the battery power to the powerpack stops as well. During running, the powerpack is powered by the stator only.
A wiring diagram for your motor should tell if you have this...
Gee, wire the bilge pump directly to the battery, thru a small inline fuse if you have one. A bilge pump, even if it shorts out shouldn't cause a fire, unlike other stuff on a boat. Also, they are often directly connected to the battery, whereas the rest of the stuff on the boat is always...
