1989 Bayliner Trophy OMC 5.8L - Help with new boat

So the engine is back in and we took it out for a few hours on lake Michigan and it ran amazing. Took some tuning to the shift cable on the dock. Every test I did on land showed it shifted fine, but once in the water it would only shift into reverse. I made some adjustments to the shift lever...

I also have a Graco x5 airless paint sprayer. Does anyone use airless paint sprayers for boats?

1989 Bayliner Trophy, Hydraulic line for trim replacement

Oh OK, I thought the trim was specific to the boat and not the motor. It's a OMC 5.8L

1989 Bayliner Trophy, Hydraulic line for trim replacement

The starboard side trim plate hydraulic hose sprung a leak on my 1989 Bayliner Trophy, What kinda of hose is used to replace this? Looks like fuel line to me, but not sure fuel line can stand up to hydraulic pressure. Thanks!

    1989 Trophy 24' - Jetski Lift Project

That was something I debated also... not out of the question. Would be tough to fit on the trailer I am using right now though, but maybe Ill explore that option. Don't want another 400lbs on the tongue weight though.

1989 Bayliner Trophy OMC 5.8L - Help with new boat

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the proper gear oil to use in the lower and the method for filling? I have pulled the lower bearing carrier out and it looks good, now just waiting on the long snap ring plier to arrive to I can inspect the forward and reverse gears.

Yeah I planned to hit the trailer with some cheap rustolium paint eventually (HVLP also). A lot of good advice here, not sure I am up for a two part poly paint, both financially and skill level. Checked a few out and they are at least twice the cost. I am good with a spray gun on automotive...

Mercury 3.6hp Two Stroke, How to chain lower oil?

I recently received a seized up very old Mercury 3.6hp two stroke outboard, not sure of the model number. I cleaned out the carb and freed up the motor, but I saw some oil by the lower and would like to make sure its sealed and full of gear oil. Where is the drain and fill and what is the...

I've looked at a couple different brands, just to see their instructions, but not seeing any recommendations for which tip to use on a spray gun.

I had not really looked at paint brands. Not sure why my research led me to a one part, but if you guys say two part is better I'm fine going that route too. Are there paint brands that are generally recommended as the best? Or is that a whole can of worms? 1.4 would be nice, save me $140 on...

The current tip I have in the HVLP gun is 1.4mm, but I believe that is too small for one-part polyurethane paint. Here is a picture of the boat for reference:

Just acquired a 1989 Bayliner Trophy 24' Cuddy Cabin, which has real rough gel coat. After doing a ton of research I decided my best bet is to paint, instead of gel coat, below the bumper line. I have painted a lot of automotive applications before (HVLP spray gun -...

1989 Bayliner Trophy OMC 5.8L - Help with new boat

I have the lower unit apart and in my garage and the next question I have is how deep should I go into the lower unit? I drained the fluid, which looked good, no major metal, but the drain and fill plugs did have some very small slight metal shaving on it (magnetic I believe). The upper gears...

1989 Bayliner Trophy OMC 5.8L - Help with new boat

Thanks, Ill post there also, just thought it was more specific to the engine than the boat. Does anyone know how the motor mount disconnects from the engine? I can see how it disconnects from the boat, but I would have to remove it from the engine to get to the freeze plug and I cant see how...

    1989 Trophy 24' - Jetski Lift Project

Yeah I do agree with you on the weight issue, something I have been debating. The main reason I want to do this is for trailering. As I will be trailering this boat everywhere I don't want to have to bring two trailers, would like to get one of my two jetskis on the boat and being they are only...

The motor has to come completely out to install the freeze plug behind the motor mount? What line is used for the trim tab?

I also had a hydraulic line burst while testing the trim tabs. How would I go about replacing the hydraulic line on the starboard side trim tab? it burst outside the boat about 2" from the hydraulic cylinder, pink fluid came out. Looks like fuel line to me, but not sure if regular fuel line is...
