    Keel rollers?

As an aluminum only boat owner, I use all the rollers I can to support the hull. My last two trailers gave been all roller trailers, no bunks. If the roller is causing damage to the keel or hull, then you don't have enough rollers ! I can see where fiberglass hulls might have a different...

Does winter cause odd purchases ?

Ah...fond memories....had one in my youth, a 15' with a 30 hp Johnson. Looked just like your pic !!! Wish I still had it ! Many of us make odd purchases in the winter from being bored and just wanting something to do, guilty of that myself ! Boating season can't come soon enough !

Yep, I am one that jumped to the tail fin, did not read deep enough to realize he was talking about a different animal.

    Bilge blower question

Don't recall seeing an outboard with a closed area for fuel and battery. If they do, then common sense should dictate a venelation system of some sort. All my out boards have had a perforated wall to allow air to circulate freely so no fumes can gather.

    STAINLESS OR NOT

In my 60 plus years of boating, I can count on one hand the number of aluminum props I have damaged. While some can, I could never justify the cost of a SS prop for an extra 1-2 mph. In my younger days, working at the boat shop, most of our lower unit repairs came from outboards that had SS...

    Bilge blower question

Only on inboards as there is a possible ignition source in an inboard motor where there is not on an outboard.

What’s this small tube do? Pics incl.

Pilot speed is only critical to measure wind speed over the wings to keep them in the air. When calculating time and distance, arrival time etc it uses GPS. !!

What’s this small tube do? Pics incl.

Over the surface of the earth as it is supposed to do. Airplanes and submarines make calculations for being above or below the surface.

What’s this small tube do? Pics incl.

Pressure reading is far less accurate in any situation than a GPS ! Why do you think our military use GPS for everything !! Most accurate speed measurement in any scenerio !! Even submarines under water....

What’s this small tube do? Pics incl.

That is correct, the time and distance over the surface, if your fighting against or flowing with a strong current your speed will change. It is still the time and distance your moving across a given area or surface. The pressure Speedo does the same thing when running with or against a...

What’s this small tube do? Pics incl.

For some reason they fail rather quickly on outboards. Often clog up and fail to give an accurate read. Pressure gages are not accurate anyway and most boats have GPS speed on the fish finder/ depth gage unit which is far more accurate ! Mine has never worked correctly since I bought the motor.

Open Bow Center Windshield MUST Be Closed While Underway

Very sorry for your loss....looking a child is a horrible thing ! Most of these dangers can be stopped by following common sense safety rules, but everyone thinks it won't happen to them.........it until it does !

Thickness of Mercruiser 140 Manifold at Drain Plug Hole

My 3.0 has A petcock type valve as shown in your pics already installed in the manifold. Can still get a wire in to be sure it drains thoroughly, not sure who installed it, but it was there when I bought it.

Winter mice are too much this cold winter in New Jersey.

A few years back, mice invaded my neighbors barn and chewed up the wiring and the seat on his skid steer. Peppered the inside with cotton balls with peppermint oil. All disappeared in less than a month and never touched a single cotton ball.....normally they love cotton to make nests !

    Don't know what I got

I hope that is not your case either, but odds are highly in your favor that the wood structure inside the hull is rotted. Based on age alone there is a 75% chance of major hull work. Most glass boats from that era were made to last 20 years with good care, 25 years with really good care and 30...

    Don't know what I got

Before spending hard earned dollars on outdated engines and drives, do a deep dive into the hull ! Odds are highly in your favor that it is rotted and unsafe to be on the water. To rebuild the hull will take years and big bucks for a boat that no one will want. I hate to say this, and your...

Winter mice are too much this cold winter in New Jersey.

I hear ya, just so you understand, the peppermint does not kill them...they hate the smell and will come no where near it. A small handful of cotton balls around the perimeter of my barn and mice stay away.

Good to know, My last two built-in tanks had stopped working at some point and after cleaning and retightening the connections, they started working again. Did not know there were parts to go bad other than a float ! Another old dog learns something new....
