1990 Johnson 70hp engine warm /will not restart

#4 and 5 on that diagram are lead plugs. They have to be removed to get passages cleaned out good. You'll have to order the carb kits to have replacements for those plugs that were mentioned. I know I already said that, but want to make sure you have everything you need before you get started.

1984 force 125 low compression question?

topgun3690 I know how to read. I disagree with Jerry. Check valves in a fuel pump have nothing to do with the gasket either.

1982 OMC 90 HP V4, won't start in the water

I'd guess carburetor issues if it runs at high RPM's, but won't crank or idle.

Also, be sure to mark them because they are all different.

70HP YAMAHA 1990 only runs on 1/3 cylinders!

You need to order carb kits and do it correctly with all new gaskets and some time spent on the jets. Here's a video to help you out.

1990 Johnson 70hp engine warm /will not restart

Old coils break down when they get hot, but usually they cause problems when taking a long ride. My thought is carburetor troubles. When it's cold, you use the choke to start the motor. That sends more fuel/air to the motor to get it started. When it's warm, have you tried choking it to get...

1984 force 125 low compression question?

Don't tear the motor down, replace the fuel pump!!!! The fuel pump is more than just the diaphram, it's got check valves too. The check valves prevent fuel from going into the cylinder and compressed air going into the fuel line. Fuel pump is probably less expensive that buying head gaskets.

1987 15hp Evinrude starts but quits every time.

Lots of folks here tell us that they cleaned the carb really good. To one guy that meant draining the gas out of the bowls and spraying a can of "gumout" into the drain holes of the carburetors. In order to fully clean that carb, you'll need to get a carb kit and you need to remove some plugs...

At End of rope: 1992 Evinrude 120

I'd watch a goo video on ceaning the carburetors. Most folks don't purchase carb kits and do it correctly. I'm pretty sure on those carbs you have to knock out some plugs and clean the passages underneath. If you hit the choke, does that make it rev up for a second? The 2 things you need to...

    Stumped, one cylinder seems dead

If you damaged the seal for the reed valves, you could have lost the vacuum needed to suck gas and air through the carburetor. I hope you had fun with your exploration of this motor! I understand your curiosity. Now it's time to order some gaskets, fuel pump (or fuel pump rebuild kit) and...

    No Power to Boat

Unplug the big plug that goes from the control box to the motor. Unplug it and plug it back together several times. It's under the motor cowling. I think that's your problem.

70HP YAMAHA 1990 only runs on 1/3 cylinders!

That's right. Short and sweet! Go to an auto parts store. Most national chains have tool rental. Rent a good compression tester, purchase a $10 spark gap tester and set it for at least 3/8" and make sure spark is strong enough to jump that gap. I would have started by spraying starting...

    2000 C40TLRY 40 hp 2 stroke

When was the water pump last replaced? I replace mine every spring. Go to an auto parts store and get a spark gap tester. Under $20. Set the gap to about 3/8" and try it on all cylinders. If the spark can jump that gap, than your ignition system is fine. If the spark is fine then you've...

Runs Well, Can’t Reach Top Speed??

Why was the carburetor replaced? Did it have the problem before the carb replacement? Are you 100% sure it's the correct carburetor? At full throttle, are the butterflies completely horizontal?

    4 stroke

You can leave it there forever. It's not going to go anywhere. You don't actually ever have to touch it again.

100293R Evinrude Starflite will NOT START, pulling hair out need expert help!

When the motor starts to crank and fires, it begins to move faster than the starter motor is turning it. That drives the gear on the starter motor down. I don't remember if you've done anything with the carbs. If you get it firing again, I'd spray some starting fluid in the carbs. If that...

    Johnson 1993 70hp head removal

Sorry guys if I steered the guy in the wrong direction. The last 3 motors I've had have all been V-4's. I didn't even think about this being an inline 3. Thanks for catching that. Glad y'all caught that before he attacked it and broke of bolts unnecessarily. Sorry about that misinformation...

Throttle linkage cable barrel at motor will not go into hole without moving throttle.

You've already posted this once before. I think we all understand the problem. Several have asked if there is any way to adjust end of the cable that's in the control box. A couple asked if there are different locations to connect the throttle cable in the control box, like longer or shorter...

Need guidance on Prop pitch and Power, 78 Johnson 55hp 55EL78S

check the plugs and see if they look different. Is one getting flooded and the other look fine. The spark gap tester is a great test of ignition system. I had a 15' dual console Cobia and it ran about 30 MPH with a 55 HP evinrude on it. No idea what pitch the prop was, but pretty sure the...
