'84 Mariner 90 horse lower gear housing removal

At the back of the motor there is a rubber plug on top of the cavitation plate directly above the Fin behind the prop. Remove that cap, remove the bolt that holds that fin on and there's another bolt that goes up from the bottom. But, on some models there's a bolt directly above the prop that...

    Rebuilt Carburetor… Still No Idle!

#15 in this diagram is your idle mixture screw, have you adjusted that? What are your RPM's at idle? Are you trying to idle it down too low? 90 psi compression is a bit low.

My bad. I went from a 21 pitch stainless prop to a 17 pitch aluminum prop. And.......You're kidding me, right? Do composite and aluminum props flex? Ace Propeller https://acepropeller.com › Prop Talk Of course! All propellers flex. What is often missed is that flex is a good...

    Piranha prop selection help

I'm guessing you went from a 15 pitch aluminum to a 17 pitch Stainless prop. That's the only thing I can think of that would make that much difference. I'd try a 19 pitch aluminum prop.

    1988 100hp mercury spark plugs

I can't understand most of this, but sounds like plugs would be a good place to start.

1985 Mercury Tower of Power 115 high rpm miss

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me. Check filters, kinks in lines, fuel pump diaphram and/or try squeezing the primer bulb when this happens.

    What gauge should I add?

I have a 1999 Sailfish with a Yamah 115 and the stock digital gauges provide me with gauges for fuel, tilt, tack, speedometer. I've purchased a small in dash digital Humminbird depth gauge and sounder that I use when cruising and don't really need to turn on the Humminbird Helix 7 that I have...

How can I troubleshoot the wrong trailer light

It's much more complicated than that on a lot of vehicles. With most newer vehicles, the blinkers are amber colored and the brake lights are red. So, the brake lights are wired together. Trailers don't have separate lights for blinkers and brakes. So, on the trailer, one bulb with two...

    1988 100hp mercury spark plugs

My Google search says NGK BP8H-N, which is a "standart" lookin plug. Those plugs that are flat were used a lot in outboards also. I've never tried them. What's wrong with the motor?

    96 Evinrude 50 cutting out

On my Yamaha, I have a small tank under the cowling and a larger aux tank thats stored under a seat. Both have large rubber caps on the top that are attached to a float that goes down into the tank. Basically with the key in the "on" position, I loosen and start lifting those floats and when I...

    Need propeller suggestions

A lower pitch prop will get you up on plane faster, reach higher RPM's and make your motor last longer. A 19 pitch 3 blade is what I would recommend. I have a Yamaha 115 on a 19' Sailfish dual console. When I bought it 5 years ago, it had a 19 pitch SS prop. Top end speed was pretty fun, but...

    96 Evinrude 50 cutting out

I have a Yamaha 115 with oil injection. I've been told that Yamaha makes the best oil injection system, but that others are not as dependable. I have kept mine in tact, but many on this site recommend deleting them. I have a 50 gallon built in tank and would hate to have to calculate how much...

How to adjust throttle friction on 1999 Yamaha 1152

I have a 1999 Sailfish 198DC with a 115 Yamaha. I have no idea what model controller I have but it's a simple single handle with tilt/trim button. The only thing that is actually exposed is the handle. I need to adjust the friction. There is one screw with access, but if that's it, it is...

    96 Evinrude 50 cutting out

VRO Variable Ratio Oil. It's the type of oil injection system you have. As far as coils and spark concerns, go to an auto parts store and get a $10 spark gap tester. Make sure all cylinders have a strong enough spark to jump at least a 3/8" gap. I would not ignore the recommendation to...

1982 OMC 90 HP V4, won't start in the water

Buy carb kits and get to work. Watch a video or find a diagram of all the carb parts so you'll know where the idle circuit parts are. You'll need carb kits because you will have to remove some small lead plugs to clean out passages under them and the kits will have the replacement plugs.

    Johnson cowling seal

I used to buy that stuff by the foot from a local guy. That's been a long time ago though. In the 70's, it was less than $1/ft..

1957 Evinrude 7.5HP Missing at low throttle

There's two ways I know of to determine if it's a carburetor problem. First, when its missing, spray a little starter fluid into the carb and see if it picks up. The second one I've never tried, but I've seen it posted here and it seems logical, wave a slightly open, but unlit propane torch in...

    1986 Johnson 70 Carb Parts

I can't tell squat from your description on pictures of your problem. Does anything connect to these barbs? Is it an open hole? Maybe close up pictures would help. On this site, you can see the pictures as-is, or you can enlarge them, but that's like looking at it through a microscope! Way...
