    Counter rotation conversion kits

Counter rotating gearcases have a larger, stronger bearing behind the rear gear (forward on CCW gearcases), than do the CW gearcases. This is because the CCW gearcase is run in reverse with the LH prop on it most of the time. I do not know if the gearcase castings are the same. They may be.

    Transom replacement or design flaw?

I would expect the top piece adds a lot of strength to the transom.

    Should I Buy A Jackplate

I also plugged the highest water pickup and drilled out the lowest water pickup on the gearcase to make it larger. the lowest water intake was always allowing water into the motor, but the top water intake could suck air. A water pressure gauge is also a good idea for all outboard motors...

Deep Cycle Battery not good for starting??

Sure, this is for RV's but the principles are the same. https://backcountrysolar.com/blog/deep-cycle-battery-vs-dual-purpose/

Deep Cycle Battery not good for starting??

Deep cycle batteries have softer plates than starting batteries. The soft plates allow the multiple deep discharge and recharge cycles and are not well suited to the high current draw needed by the starter motor. Will they work, sure, for a while, but a starting battery will last longer.

    Should I Buy A Jackplate

If the IL6 has the older style clamp bracket which uses 3/8" carriage bolts, they do not have much adjustability.

    Should I Buy A Jackplate

I had my Merc 1500 on a jackplate on my 16' speedboat. It caused the boat's transom to sit lower in the water, but provided a bit of extra speed. The transom sitting lower in the water was an issue, as the weight of the motor was more than the builder planned for, as the boat was rated for...

    Transom replacement or design flaw?

The transom cap is cracked thru. Likely from the plywood flexing. That does not help with lateral strength. See if you can find a way to repair/replace it.

    Fuel tank

A lot of those center console style boats have the fuel tank under the CC. Look for a pink wire running from the fuel gauge down into the deck under the CC. Pink is usually used for the sender wiring.

Might be dipping my toes back into boating

Unfortunately, heavier boats are better in rough seas. They just ride better but need more power. Also, in salt water, fiberglass is immune to corrosion. Aluminum hulls in salt water can be protected, but it is a bit trickier. So, if you plan to boat in salt water, with any waves, a...

Might be dipping my toes back into boating

You might consider an outboard powered boat. Sterndrives are just about obsolete, with the rise of 450HP outboards. Sterndrive power requires a whole lot more maintenance than OB's, take up a lot of cockpit space and are real hard to work on vs OB's. Also, Cobra and V-P sterndrives are...

Deep Cycle Battery not good for starting??

Using a deep cycle battery to start a motor hurts the battery. The current 3 battery configuration you have now is just fine.

Are you talking about the rub rail around the perimeter of the gunwale? Taco makes them.

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

Gee, if it won't fire or backfire with ether, the spark is way off. You might pop off the valve cover for #1 cylinder and verify the valves operate properly, and you are installing the distributor so it fires on/near TDC on the compression stroke.

    Trailer trouble

Do you have a chain that controls the max tilt of the trailer? Make the wires long enough to allow for that and bungee cord them to the frame. When the trailer tilts the bungee cord will stretch to allow the wires to move with the tilt.

1998 Johnson 115 hp v4 reverse low rpm

You might see if the throttle advances in reverse. My '98 Johnny 150HPV6 control needs some hard pushing to accelerate in reverse. Likely just dirt in the control.

    Info on Evinrude 115 E115TLETS

Gee, in 1993 synthetic oil was not even available. We also may have been using TCW-II in those days. Today's off-brand TCW-III oil is better than what the motor was designed to run on.

Possible water intrusion or lean sneeze?

My vote is water intrusion. I do not think raw gasoline alone would make the spark plug that clean.
