Mercruiser 3.0L LX Alpha One - Oil Leak

it could be the gasket, the crank seal, or a corroded timing cover. You might be able to take the pulley off the crank to get a better look. You probably could do the oil pan in the hull, depending on what your engine cowl/doghouse looks like. Except for lifting device, it is really easy to...

    470 overheating

You could pressure test the cooling system with an automotive style cooling system pressure tester. The antifreeze side of you engines should hold pressure. Those engines are known for the cam driven water pump to leak AF sometimes into the oil

Help me set up my new edelbrock 1409

probably easier to snake one exhaust hose below the floor than 2 summit racing has wedges as you dont want to price the OEM one .. you can probably get studs at a local auto parts store, or old time hardware store . I think they are 5/16 coarse. Might be worth cutting down what you have until...

Help me set up my new edelbrock 1409

Its only insane when the fuel pump diaphragm ruptures.... I'm a safety is for sissies kind of guy but some things make sense. If you end up needing to rejet it the eddy book has some charts that help figure out which way to go.

Help me set up my new edelbrock 1409

A spacer can help with midrange by adding plenum volume but in this case, unless the PO was using them to adapt from a speadbore manifold to square bore carb I'd take them off. Setting the carb up should be pretty easy as that should run good on a 5.7 out of the box. Start wit the idle mix...

Mercruiser 4.3 alpha 1 gen 2 alignment questions

yes I had it backwards... Point I was trying to make (seeing the comment about the shop getting it as close as they could) is you can find some that dont give textbook witness marks and work just fine for years. My boat is a great example, have 400 hrs over last 9 yrs towing a lot of skiiers yet...

Mercruiser 4.3 alpha 1 gen 2 alignment questions

To get more grease on the bottom you need to raise the front not lower it. we must have the same boat. What you describe is exactly the alignment witness marks I got on mine years back When I did a repower. Never could get it to text book witness marks. Never had an issue with it in the 9 years...

No water coming out of the exhaust on muffs

Ame sure the choke is fully opening too. When you adjust the idle mix going in (lean) at some point it should stumble. If not possible float level and or needle and seat is keeping fuel level in bowl too high and hence being really rich.

    Trouble re-mounting lower unit

wonder of the water tube is misaligned - the one that comes up from water pump to underside of upper. also think that with 1/2" the splines are lined up. With it in gear you can confirm this by turning the input or prop shaft they will turn together if splines are in place.

    Trim Hydraulics

I would take the lines of the cylinders see if they bind up when compressing they should move freely by hand otherwise may have to take apart clean and or rebuild. Is there corrosion on outside of shafts that is binding them up

    Mercruiser 120 poor starting

May be other issues but if you dribble gas down car and I won’t fire then you are missing spark. This assumes the engine has decent compression a cheap spark gap tester can be helpful to test strength of spark
