    mercruiser 4.3 thermostat housing

i in the applications part 18-8835-1 fits Delco EST and YEMS distributors where 18-8810-1 looks to fit both Delco EST and Thunderbolt distributors. One would think there is some sort of difference if they are making two parts numbers. Do you know what distributor you have ? if you take a...

How much Prop should i try?

This is same situation I ran into with my repower. Boat wasn't running as it was sold as handymans special. If the boat manufacturer sold that boat with the 5.7 300 hp see what prop they would put on it. Sea Ray published that in their parts book. I started out with the existing prop (19"...

I think my good friend has the same crownline very nice boat But he has the 300 hp 350 mag and I think it is under powered. not trying to dissuade u as i commend having a price range just be realistic about it. We have a 21 ft with a 5.0 which is...

Alpha 1 Gen 1 Upper Unit Hex Bolt Connecting Halves Broke Off

put perfect seal/permatex #3 on the threads when you go back in keeps them from locking up. you wont blast a hole in the upper trying to weld- use a thick washer or nut weld on the inside of the nut or hole in washer to the bolt , weld the nut to the washer etc. you will be amazed how this...

Alpha 1 Gen 1 Upper Unit Hex Bolt Connecting Halves Broke Off

if the portion left is up on the surface usually I weld a nut to it and can get it off. Of course this only works if you have access to a mig or tig welder or welding shop. Usually the heat welding it helps loosen it up. if you can thread the nut on whats left and tack it on If you can get...

    Pitch perfect

you hear hit and miss things about TP (at least from the dock chair experts here...) I have had decent luck with the Vortex 4 blades on my previous boat. they are a good value and for me were a great way to cut my teeth prop selecting with out breaking the bank. The vortex doesnt have a ton of...

How much Prop should i try?

I did a similar repower went from a 190 hp 4.3 to a 260 hp 5.0 on a sea ray 200 sport. Kept the 1.81 V6 drive . Boat had a 19” vengance on it. Found going up 2” in pitch was roughly equivalent to one step in drive ratio as with a 5.0 my boat would have come with a 1.62 drive witha 5.0. what wot...

Carter P4389 Doesn't Work when Connected to Carburetor

By needle valves do you mean needle and seat that is connected to floats , and have to take the carb top off to get a. or needle valves as in the idle mix screws on base of carb stick up at a 45 deg angle ? if you dump a little gas down carb bores does the engine start briefly? You want to...

Spray of water from exhaust manifold above O2 sensor

While you can weld cast iron with tig and the correct rod it is hit and miss And requires preheating and cool down of the part before and after welding. the most honest answer a welder can give you is I will try but make no gauarantee.… it is also double wall. Better way to repair castings is...

Spray of water from exhaust manifold above O2 sensor

Probably cracked Looks like a pin hole near. I would dissasemble and use acetone or pressure test to see what's is going on. Are they made of aluminum or cast iron. Aluminum could probably be repaired but cast iron not so much

    bogging down after 5mins

Additionally you can always run it off a remote tank to verify it is an issue with fuel system supply. As mentioned above that's what it would seem to be. Did it ever run ok with the new carb? often if fuel system is contaminated you will just pollute the new or rebuilt carb.

Is my gimbal bearing sealed or greaseable

to me that means the grease holes are not lined up and you are not greasing the bearing. Grease should be coming out around the shielding on the bearing. Run it till it starts making noise then replace it with a permalube or a properly placed greaseable aftermarket bearing. they groan when...

    Pitch perfect

I might try a different 4 blade than the spitfire. On my 21 ft bow rider I got a ton of slip with the spitfire. It was pretty disappointing compared to the sales schtick. would also verify motor is low enough doesnt sound like it is - do you have a pic of the motor trimmed all the way down

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

    Bellows replacement

for all I have read about it here and other forums have not had an issue. my family has had a cottage in a shallow cove since the early 60s and the 3 I/O boats we have had have been 33, 25, and 20 years old. the greaseable u-joints in my '91 made it 23 years, the non greaseable in my current...

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

more for if the valves are adjusted correctly. Common mistake can be to overtighten nuts on rockers arms, valves don't close. Have also heard that if one intake hangs open can prevent firing but never seen it myself. To the op might be worth checking the rockers on those low cylinder...
