    Timing is retarded ;-)

The ignition module is available separately. I think if you google delco est module you will find the cross over to the GM module. you are correct to do some basic items if maintenance was neglected. I would hold off on that for now… if you have the wrong prop that will make an underpowered...

    Trim troubles

The solenoids will click. A continuos hum is the pump working. hard to tell from info given. A volt meter and wiring diagram is needed if pump not running. If pump is running have you checked fluid level and condition

Alpha outdrive stud came off with nut. Never saw this before???

Exactly just have to know what type is used and what heat is required to remove. Even their 660 retaining compound breaks down after a year in heat of machines

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

Bottom line with a scope Carmera attchment etc you need to get back in there and look that’s the only thing that will show you this. lift drive full out and double check the bellows both driveshaft and shift. The driveshaft can get splits on the side where it rubs on gimbal ring. Can also pull...

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

It could be bellows either driveshaft or shift. could also be exhaust pipe. Need to put it in the water and see where it is coming in . Bellows can leak or not leak depending on out drive trim and where the steering is positioned. fresh water use my bellows were not leaking at 18 years old when...

    Timing is retarded ;-)

Verify the tach is correct in case it is reading higher, or did u reving above 3 k and see advance stopping? Usually this relates to the ignition module failing. The module is inside the distributor is it down on power ?

    Flames up when starting

If it was running prior and no one moved the distributor I would think you have a valve hanging open. Normally a back fire like this is timing being so off the cylinder fires when a valve is open. Common when starting a new engine or if the distributor is removed and engine is being retimed. I...

Should I pull heads for inspection, 5.7 liter

After the carb rebuild they are still wet with fuel? Would clean or replace to see what is going on now. if still fouling plugs then carb isn't properly working yet or is it oil fouling? Did you set the idle mix properly and is the choke opening fully You can ruin the rings by washing the...

4.3 that I was not winterized

Pressure test the cooling system. Normally a 4.3 will crack in lifter valley just below the heads tag probably means it is a rebuild. if you need a 4.3 ( block verified cracked) just figure out your block casting number and get a $400 from a wrecking yard.

Alpha outdrive stud came off with nut. Never saw this before???

only thing to add is follow the loctitie cure time on the tech data sheet for which ever thread locker you are using. You can find them online but usually 24 hrs will let it set up

    new carb

Do a little research first- you can tell them apart by bowl venting, throttle linkage, lack of vacuum ports, and nipple to connect to mechanical fuel pump rupture overflow. This is from OEMs like Holley Quick Fuel and Edlebrock. Instead of posting the same concerns several times -why don't...
