3 cylinder 35 hp water holes sealant?

every little hole. look at the head. no holes. so any hole in the block not sealed will cause it to leak. You can use any RTV really. more important is acetone the head and block until a white rag comes up spotless. get a dremel pen wire wheel and clean out all the old stuff. id soak the pistons...

Help with Johnson 150 Pinion Bearing Removal

as flyingscott said the tool is spring loaded so you can put the correct amount of pressure on the whole assembly for repeatable measurements. you cant use calipers that way here. you're only allowed like .002'' error or severely reduce pinion life.

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

there is no adjustment of the timer base. if its popping/backfiring you've either got a couple primary terminal leads on the wrong cylinders, or it sheared the flywheel key. did you thoroughly degrease the flywheel and crank tapers and torque to 140-150 ft/lbs w. a new nut??

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

    Evinrude 55 1978 gearcase

? your just putting a tiny bit on the outer metal (or newer type hard plastic) casing. the rubber lip just gets a smear of grease of your choice. heck i've used light oil in a pinch wont matter one bit. it sounds like your saying your mixing grease with permatex #3?

    100+ outboards

yep. ive had bad experiences with gearcases especially. people can claim the dont shift right, and what can you do but give them what they want? that scared me away from listing any of my rebuild motors. if your potentially out $3-4k, thats a crap load of money and time down the drain . the 30...

    100+ outboards

you'd be surprised about ebay. I see 2 cyl loopers (newer 1989-up w. trim/tilt) and 3 cyl 56ci OMC motors sell for $3500-$4800 if they are willing to ship! they all looked nice but werent even rebuilt. just supposedly "serviced" with the usual cam roller outer sleeves rotted away and no mention...

what location did you say? I thought i saw something about PA. but up here in RI we have a massive saltwater boating community. limiting hp to 10 would kill any hopes of a vibrant used market id think because the 2 strokes just last so long as you mentioned. I will say the 2 stroke market in...

    100+ outboards

the 2cyl and 3cyl loopers are my bread and butter, i suspect like many of us old 2 stroke rebuild shops. my limit for a clean re-builder (max .020'' over if its just minor scoring) is $250. i consider any motor not able to be demonstrated on stand a re-builder, or one flopped over on its side...

1982 Johnson 50 Sea Horse - Constant Beep While Accelerating

yep definitely check that those relief holes are spitting water after it warms up. with the IR gun, blip the throttle in neutral. you should see the temp sharply decrease. if you dont you know you have a restriction in the water tube grommet or exhaust seals as i mentioned (if theres no crack in...

1982 Johnson 50 Sea Horse - Constant Beep While Accelerating

these particular motors will run on the verge of overheating if one or both lower exhaust seals are leaking. especially the upper one if that leaks/gets pinched, it will get hot. there needs to be a "wall of water" cooling the exhaust which is impossible without the seal. easy way to tell if...

    Help identifying fitting. 2000 225

unfortunately im not at my shop but its either a drain fitting that goes into the airbox, or a recirc hose that goes to one cylinder port side but it doesnt look like a check valve one. Racer could tell you.

Yet, another Gale sovereign 40 question.

omc #321504 should be the correct upper crank seal but id certainly take the whole motor apart in an afternoon for a complete reseal. gasket sets are extremely cheap now too.

    1982 Johnson outboard 60 hp 2 cly

yep just to clarify temp is taken at 900rpm at TOP of the head. these models have a nice flat spot for the old thermomelt sticks... now we use IR guns. temp MUST be between 125-152.5f after 5 minutes. on these motors the rubber exhaust seal must be in good shape and not pinched. you will know...

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

what shop spends the time to grind an impact socket so it will fit, vs just using a regular non-tapered socket? system needs to crank 250rpm minimum to do a proper DVA cranking test. also not sure what he means by "no voltage at high tension"... well yea gotta load test the power pack!

im not sure where your getting this reliability thing. 1st ive heard. now it is true if you use the modern knockoffs / nova 2 ones with factory coils they wont last long. but never atom/sierra magnatunes. literally never hear of a single failure, including dozens ive done for customers over the...
