1978 Johnson 85 HP Choke Issues

No wonder you are getting so many incorrect replies. I wonder how many other things are wrong. Does it even have the correct carburetors? Or did somebody swap out some bigger carbs in a go-faster attempt?

1978 Johnson 85 HP Choke Issues

That is not a 1978 remote control. Nevertheless, raising the fast idle lever pushes the throttle cable, which moves the throttle on the motor. There is a lot of slack in the cable, so the lever has to be raised a lot more than in your picture to actually do anything because of the slack. As...

'69 johnson hydro electric shift V4

Possibly somebody had a stuck shift piston in the oil pump, so he honed the bore in the pump to free it up and provide more clearance for the piston to slide. Nice idea, but that also increases the leakage past the piston (remember, it has no rings like engine pistons). Now the lower oil...

Able to add tilt and trim?

Sure it supposed to tilt up under overload such as running aground. But face it if you whack a big rock at 40 mph something probably will break even if it were mounted on ball bearings

Older 6hp Johnson - Oil Leak Between Upper and Lower Unit

Not a problem if it is what you say. Could be excess fuel mix or fogging oil or? That joint is not sealed and anything coming out there was headed back to the sea anyway. Question is, why is so much oil in there anyway?

    1970 20hp johnson Ran Hot

At the least, a motor that got that hot needs new head gasket and exhaust gaskets. You will know a lot more about possible further damage as you see it when you get in there.

1975 Johnson 25 HP Not Running

Well those cracks are the result of somebody over torquing the nut. That motor is hopeless until you find a good flywheel

1976 6 hp Evinrude "slipping or over reving" coming up on throttle.

Hingeman, that o-ring you see in the parts book is not on the prop. It goes around the gearcase head & bearing assy. The rubber hub is not visible on the 6h prop. All you will see is the bronze part of the hub. The rubber cushion is between the bronze and the propeller body itself. See...

    New Mystery Fastwin, needs tiller

The two-piece tiller handle was used on a multitude of 5.5, 6. 7.5, 10, 18-20-25hp motors of the 1960's, 70.s etc. Almost too many to list. NOT the 9.9/15's though.

    Water in the powerhead

I have to agree, it could be normal condensation----new or old engines. It happens when the engine is started and before it has a chance to warm up. You may have noticed water dripping from the tailpipe of a car when started and allowed to sit and run at idle in cold weather. A warmed-up...

?????Title says two lever control. But why am I seeing only one lever????? My guess is that the switches are for an OMC Electric Shift or Hydro Electric shift. But on a Merc Control????
