Repairing gas sensor / cables / vent gas hose

To the OP, watch one of those videos where boats suddenly go boom due to fuel vapors. Then determine if you want to risk keeping tank in place without cleaning, inspection, and pressure test based on those photos. Some may differ, that tank looks at end of life based on the amount of corrosive...

    Engine dies under a load

To the OP, if you reject the advice from experienced members here that know these outboards extremely well, they will not endlessly entertain your questions about things of no value asked in this topic if you don't follow their advice fully as they walk you through diagnosing. Like ignoring...

1987 OMC Ignition key switch locked and will not turn

Make sure you disconnect battery power when replacing it and triple check the wiring is placed correctly and won't leave exposed conductors. If battery positive voltage touches your kill circuit wire or 12 volts positive incorrectly is switched to your kill circuit wire, you will fry your...

    Anybody use OTA TV?

If you have very short patience for situations like waiting at long lines at the DMV, then do not use a smart phone for your primary internet connection if you have any significant internet usage (Hulu, Netflix, AppleTV, etc.) For example, try downloading a large video during Monday around noon...

    GMAIL issue !

Google E-mail accounts does not require you to actually fill in your personal information accurately like signing up for a water bill, ISP, or electric utility. They are no worse than Yahoo or many other free E-mail providers regarding ads, so I fail to see the issue here. Now I can see people...

Hard plane after switch from points ignition

Anybody know if the interupt circuit on Delco EST distributor is vulnerable to damage if it is shorted to ground if it was not first replaced with 12 volts? If so, that could explain the distributor module's weird behavior and that would not be covered under warranty because of improper...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Outboard motors are designed to drain the raw water when they shut off as long as the tilt is adjusted to have them completely vertical. That's why you don't see an army of people rushing to get their outboards winterized before the first freeze happens unlike inboard equipped boats. If you...

Any tips to release fuel tank stuck by floatation foam

Any tips on ways to safely pry a polymer permenant fuel tank out with the bottom likely stuck with floatation foam holding it on rather firmly. Either that or any tips on ensuring safe cutting at the very bottom with oscallating tool without hitting the tank or gouging into the very bottom hull...

HOA rules say, no boats visible from the street,....

Same here, that was the criteria when I did my first home purchase search/purchase back in 2017, no homes in POA/HOA. Some areas in the US have gotten so bad involving HOA/POA abuse of power that the local or state governments have been pushed to do something about it Many people across the...

    No sparking v4

Lisle flywheel turner and a 2ft 3/4 inch gas pipe at a hardware store works wonders to create a strong flywheel holding fixture. The cushion grip creates plenty enough friction to keep it in the pipe.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Yes, polyester resin for allowing gelcoat to bond against it when the surface is cleaned properly. Need to make sure you are using volitile organic compound (VOC) filters on your respirator that will filter out the nasty particulates as well. It is the typical model that is used by automotive...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Gelcoat will bond to Polyester resin, not to epoxy resin. Keep that in mind where ever you plan to use epoxy. Whether that be a small hole patch or a boat deck.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

To the OP, keep in mind that if you go the epoxy & fiberglass route you cannot put gelcoat over the top of it or polyester resin & fiberglass to allow bonding of gelcoat. Epoxied boat floor deck 100% requires paint or some 100% opaque coverage such as glued boat carpet or other permenant boat...

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Always a good idea after test fitment of transom assembly to epoxy the exposed wood of the transom cut out and seal the wood of the transom bolt holes or use a good below water sealant on the transom bolt holes that is NOT permanent. One just doesn't want sealant on areas where it doesn't...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Looking at the price and how difficult taping things up are, I'm probably going to buy cut resistant arm sleeves that go over your hands like a glove so they don't slip off if/when I begin grinding. Then putting gloves over your hands and wear the Tyvek suit. I haven't committed yet to fixing...

    Rectifier/Regulator

This should have been asked in the Evinrude/Johnson forum and really didn't need another topic created for this. If the stator is rated for a max of 9 amps output for the charging system, you can go either with the CDI 193-3408 or the Evinrude/Johnson OEM 0585195. Either one you choose, you...

    Marine Insurance

Like a spy calling in a favor to a spy contact living in an adversary's country and after a few days of that call/text/letter that contact ends up dead by the country's secret police. Instead of government secrets, it's your need for insurance that causes you to end up being an "Enemy of the...

    Marine Insurance

Welcome to the US insurance world now. A bunch of market analysts have been sounding the alarm over several months to expect large price increases in insurance rates no matter who you are, no matter what it is, and no matter where it is. If you have read about how State Farm is not renewing...

    1980 100hp vs 1986 110hp ignition coils

The The short answer is no, you cannot because the rectifier/regulator combo on 1986 and later is a water cooled unit that goes on the position where the lift ring is fastened on SPL designated engines and many of the V4 crossflows before 1986. If the mounting on that is the same, you will...
