    All I know is it was getting some oil but the ram wasn't connected to allow more oil injection at higher rpms. So it was not getting enough oil but some. It's a 2 stroke.

    Item 49 is exactly what has broken and fell apart. I have the lower end off and the motor is covered on the boat.

    I was running my motor all summer. Took off the bottom end to weld a crack and when I pulled it off it was filled with a load of exhaust housing. A full handful. Then looked up and there is a half moon section missin. Probably 5x5.

    Got it fired up. Only ran it for 20 secs as I don't have the lower end done and didn't want it to over heat. Attached is the picture of the cut out switch

    The spark, just tried to run it. Lots of back firing. For the fuel pump/diapram cut off. Does it need to be wired together or open.

    I have been trying for a few days to get spark in the engine. Took off flywheel and stator. -New wires, 7mm copper core - Tested both coils. 0.5oms at primary and 7000k and 8000k oms at secondary. - Reset points to 0.020 with feeler gauge. Cleaned with contact cleaner and witness paper...

    Right, so it shouldn't slip. Im just concerned, that i'f shifted to quickly from forward to reverse from the controls up front this could be an issue. But if you guys thinks it's good to go than I'll probably be ready to rock next summer with a fully tuned up 35hp with a back up 1960 johnson 40hp

    Yes there is nothing stopping it from going back and forth. Needs to be hooked up at a minimum to the controls to test. I had it running without the lower end on it for 15 secs. But didn't have to worry because the shift rod want attached to anything

    Had to get a new one it was completely chewed up, forward, reverse, pinion gear and blown clutch dog.

    Good day all, I got this great condition upper end motor but the previous owner destroyed the lower end somehow, it was all full of chips. Could it have anything to do with the removal of the shifting detent mechanism? Is it completely necessary?

    I just bought a project motor, after tearing down the lower unit all the gears are destroyed and before I rebuild it I had some questions if you guys can help. What is the part above the shift leave, mine is missing. Could this be the reason the guy before me destroyed the lower end?
