1998 Yamaha 9.9ELRX won't rev up past idle?

Ran 12v to the electrothermal valve. It extends. Motor still running rich.

1998 Yamaha 9.9ELRX won't rev up past idle?

Update: Got it idling, and realized that there is no power to the Prime Start unit. Neutral terminal has continuity to negative post on starter. Jumped power from positive post on starter to the PrimeStart positive side, full 12 volts coming out the negative side. Device definitely had power...

1998 Yamaha 9.9ELRX won't rev up past idle?

Afternoon, Just picked up a new to me 1998 Yamaha T9.9ELRX outboard (along with the rest of the boat.) Looks to have had very gentle use. Engine ran great when I bought the boat last month. Its been sitting since then, as I've been sorting out the Merc outdrive (yikes!). Big motor runs and...

    MC-1 Exhaust Bellows Slipping Off.

That looks like a winner there. Let's a guy feel like the thing is put together completely. There isn't any reason this shouldn't be used on a 4 banger is there? It's got a 3.0 in it for now.

    MC-1 Exhaust Bellows Slipping Off.

Thanks for the response here. Apologies, I wasn't super clear there. With the comma I meant to separate those activities. I trimmed it all the way up to trailer position. Lowered it, and ran it. Just wasn't sure which chicken/egg pooped the exhaust off because I didn't think to check until...

    MC-1 Exhaust Bellows Slipping Off.

Man, I was looking at it yesterday and figured that was the case. Drives me nuts to leave something half assed on a boat destined for big salt water, but all it does route exhaust and cooling water down and out through the prop right? As far as water intrusion goes, nothing changes? I'd...

    MC-1 Exhaust Bellows Slipping Off.

Hey Y'all, Got bellows buttoned up, but the exhaust bellows pulled off immediately. Blasted through all the engine stuff today, where I'm more familiar. Rewired the trim switch. Trimmed the drive up, ran the engine, and sure enough the exhaust bellows popped right off on the gimbal housing...

MC-1 New Shift Cable Won't go Through?

MAN!! I could kiss you. That was so easy it hurt my brain. I think I was blinded by frustration. I walked back out there, and had it through in 30 seconds, on the first try. Thanks to you. I owe you a beverage sir, you rescued my Friday night. I thought I was going to cry into this beer...

MC-1 New Shift Cable Won't go Through?

Evening fellers, Welp, I've got this incredibly frustrating bellows job just about knocked off (this is my first time). I've been through every damn thing a guy could go through getting this baby patched up. I've bored and tapped for the new shift cable (was done previously, but brass fitting...

    1973 MC-1 Outdrive

Evening Fellers, Days off disappeared there for a while. Halibut opener on the glasply looking a bit less than likely, bummer. Good news, I got the shift cable bored and tapped, new gimbal bearing in, the water line on and drive shaft bellows all glued up and clamped on this evening. Hoping...

    1973 MC-1 Outdrive

Hey Bud! Thanks for the encouragement. I've got my eyes peeled. I think this ring itself might still be useable. I've bored out the old pins. Also bored and re-tapped the shift cable hole. That said I've got my eyes peeled for a replacement. Bellhousing exhaust port has some holes, and could...

    MC-1 Update

Apologies, I got my threads confused. I meant to ask that question over on the glasply forum. But, for the record, it's an inline 4. A 3.0 alpha one lx I believe. And it's currently sitting in a 19 foot Glasply Cuddy. Garage stored for 50 years, rock solid transom and stringers. Spent most of...

    MC-1 Update

Yeah, I'm getting over my initial concern. We're gonna run it as is. But for the record, anyone know if a V8 will fit in my motor well/bilge area?

    MC-1 Update

Low temp aluminum brazing rods work pretty well @ around 700 degrees. Allows good penetration without deforming the repair / bonding surfaces. Is there a reason that the particular alloy Mercruiser used in this bell housing won't take a braze well?

    MC-1 Update

Oh man, don't tempt me. I think I am going to attempt to braze though. At this point, the worse thing that happens is the rotten bell housing is still rotten. Been on it with the wire brush tonight, will pick up some brazing rods tomorrow and see how she goes.

    MC-1 Update

Well Ladies and Gents, I suppose you were correct here. Debating attempting to braze this bellhousing back together, but while cleaning up I found where previous owner had used some sort of epoxy to plug holes in the exhaust chamber. My thrifty side says.... "eh, exhaust is wet anyway. It's...

    1973 MC-1 Outdrive

This has gone from a bellows job to a full engine swap. Engine seems good to me, and I believe it's a 90's 3.0 just not positive. I need to get the oil sender off so I can tidy up the data plate. Good compression, fires up, idles, sounds smooth. Has some surface corrosion, but I think I can...

    1973 MC-1 Outdrive

Aye, I dont really want to take a lot of chances. This boat is destined for Sekiu Salmon and Halibut fishing, with kids and an 80 year old dad. I suppose the next question is compatibility. Will an Alpha One housing fit in the same spot and use my same drive? Has anyone ever pulled off...
