Help me pick a sewing machine.

Re: Help me pick a sewing machine. I've been using a Juki for 20 years with no problems. What ever you buy be sure it's industrial with a walking foot and reverse. If your just beginning, start on small projects to get your skills together. Here is a pic of a seat I just finished for my 73...

    Force 125 rebuild

Re: Force 125 rebuild I got around to putting the crank back in today. Holly shnizzle that was harder than I thought it would be. It just wouldn't sit down on all the bearing pins at the same time. I must of had it in and out 15 times. In the end I figured that the seals weren't sitting in...

    force 125 lower crankshaft seal

Re: force 125 lower crankshaft seal Success. After working on it with a chisel I realized that the seal was two pieces sandwiched together. I kept bending the inside piece in until I could get the dykes to grab it, then twisted it out. I cut away the rubber and started bending the bottom edge...

    force 125 lower crankshaft seal

I posted this question on my 125 rebuild thread with no response so I thought I would try again. I'm trying to remove the seal from the lower crank bearing. I sprayed it with penetrating oil, heated it with a heat gun, bolted it back in the split casing, and tried a pry type seal puller with a...

    Force 125 rebuild

Re: Force 125 rebuild I've been busy working on the interior of my boat but today I put the block back on the bench and got going. I put the new pistons together with connecting rods and bearings, checked the ring gaps and put them in the cylinders. I would like to replace the seal on the lower...

    control box

In my bartering I got both types of controls (cables behind, and in front of the mounting panel). I decided to use the cables in front box because it had the tilt/trim switch on the handle. Not wanting the exposed cables, here is what I came up with. All this will get covered with closed cell...

    125 lower unit choices

Hi, I've been spending some time trying to sort out my lower units and here are my questions. All of these I got on trade for upholstery services. The first one I believe is off a 91 120hp. I know this won't work for the 125 I'm rebuilding but I wanted to test it before I sell it. At 10lbs it...

    Force 125 rebuild

Re: Force 125 rebuild That's exactly what I did. That's how I discovered that my transom had to be dealt with before i went any further. I decided to add knee braces and modify the splash well while I was at it. You can see I've set it up for a set back/jack plate. This is why it's taken me so...

    Force 125 rebuild

Re: Force 125 rebuild Sorry I've been away for so long. I got wrapped up in the boat restoration during the summer. I thought it was going to be a paint job and an interior. After closer inspection it was deck off, partial floor and new transom. I just finished painting it this past week end...

    Force 125 rebuild

Re: Force 125 rebuild I have three of these motors but none were in running condition when I got them. So, I won't really be able to talk about performance gains. Here is a photo of the boat I plan to strap it to (after paint and upholstery). Maybe when I'm finished I'll bring it down to PA and...

    Force 125 rebuild

Re: Force 125 rebuild OK, It's taken a while (having a hard time getting to the bottom of the honey-do list this spring) but i have finally finished opening up the bypass ports on my motor. Here are some before and after picks. Feel free to comment. I will buy a gasket set with my next pay...

    Force 125 rebuild

Ok, I just got my 1989 block back from being machined. They took it .020 over with diamond honing for a cost of $200. Seems mine was the first outboard motor to be done on their new $50k machine. I hope this is a good thing. I was going to send pictures but I can't seem to manage attachments...

    What are these thingys

I found these rolling around in the legs of both my 88 and 89 force 125s. I assume they play a part in managing water as it exits the leg or snout. In both cases they were detached. Are they important, and what's the best way to keep them in place? Thanks

    125 carburetor options

OK, I've sent my 89 125 block off for a bore and hone. I'm now starting to look at my carburetor collection. In one of my trades I picked up a bunch of parts from a 1996 120. The carbs appear to be very similar with the earlier style (primer instead of choke and a second needle adjusting screw)...

    piston melt down

Re: piston melt down It's warm enough to get back in my barn so I finally got all of my motors torn down. Here are pics of the 89. As you said Frank, it has the tapered top rings, three of which are broken. I'm thinking this block is the best candidate for rebuilt. I'm ok with having it bored...

    Force 125 bypass valve

When taking apart my 1986 force 125 the only bolt I snapped was one of the two holding the bypass valve. This motor has seen some salt water and the cavity for the valve, as well as the bottom #4 water jacket, were packed with sediment. I had to dig the valve out in pieces. Can someone explain...

    piston melt down

Re: piston melt down Thanks Frank, I am learning a lot. Are just the top rings different (semi-keystone) or are the ring groove also different? I would like to ask about the last of my triumvirate (the 1988) if I could. This motor has 120lbs of compression in three cylinders and 90lbs in #3...

    piston melt down

Re: piston melt down Thought maybe I could show you pics from the 89 while we are on the topic. I'm thinking I am also looking at lean mixture deterioration in the early stages. The previous owner told me that he rebuilt the carbs, replaced a CD and then only used it once...said it started hard...

    piston melt down

Re: piston melt down Frank, You are the best. You should know that I was given a 72 checkmate mx-16 a few years ago. After hours of research on the the best way to power it with a fixed budget, it was information on this forum that pushed me in the Force direction. That and the fact that they...

    piston melt down

I'm hoping I have the correct photo attached to this post. First time with this. Forgive me if I get it wrong. This piston is out of a 1986 Force 125 that I bought for parts. The owner said that he lost spark in one cylinder, diagnosed a bad stator, replaced it with a new stator, got spark and...
