Re: 1.0 litre Ecoboost Go-Kart
59mpg would be great, but I'm still not that impressed with it. I had a '93 Geo Metro 2D with a 1.0L 3cyl, and I got 48mpg on the highway. Almost 20yrs of technology, and they can only bump it 10mpg?? I'm sure the Ford will have a much higher build quality though, and I'm sure it will ride and handle much better than the ol' Metro. (Prob look a lot better too LOL)
Yeah, its too bad you really can't effectively repair the NorthStar head gaskets. Some companies claim to have a permanent fix, but I've heard very mixed results. Mine leaks no oil or coolant @ 182K miles. Hoping mine will last until about 210-220k, then I'll source a low mile engine or a low mile Aurora. There are still some out there with 60-70k on them that pop up for sale every once in a while.
LOL I have to laugh when someone looks STRICTLY at mpg, and says "my Geo Metro got 48mpg on the highway." Well lets see, did your Geo Metro have 123hp and 125fp of torque? Me thinks NOT.

The Metro had several engine options in it eight years under the Geo name. From 1989 through 1994, the base 1.0 liter produced 49 horsepower (hp) and the "high-output" engine produced 55 hp. From 1995 through 1997, the base engine increased to 55 hp and the "high-output" 1.3 liter produced 70 hp.

So all in all, yea they only went up 2mpg, but they more than doubled the horsepower, almost tripling it. To do THAT AND increase miles per gallon, yea that is substantial. The base 1993 Geo Metro engine produced 49hp, yet got comparable mileage to the Ecoboost engine, at 123 hp. That ecoboost engine would run circles around your car, burning the same fuel and being the same exact displacement. Not to mention your Geo Metro weighed in at 1690lbs, the smallest Ford car, the Fiesta, is 2600lbs and has a 1.6liter engine boasting 40+mpg highway. So with more power, slinging a much more substantial car down the road, the MPG has gone up. Oh yea, the crash test ratings for the Geo Metro were terrible, the Ford Fiesta got an IIHS top safety pick 5 star crash test rating in all categories. Try that in your Metro.
Yea, that IS innovation.
Comparing the Ecoboost vehicles to the Metro is like comparing a dingy to a yacht.
