Re: 14' Larivee restore

Gus that thing is big enough to be a push pole or maybe it's made that way to fend off them gators down in the Glades .. :D
And Lisa I would NEVER assume that you don't catch fish every time out . Umm I was more thinking in terms of them being used as beverage holders while heading out before you fill the boat with fish ! :behindsofa::peep::whistle::hug:

Just when I thought you had hurt me deeply, Sam....you go & redeem yourself & remind me why I'm glad to call you a fellow backyard boatbuilder! (& a darn good one!). Sounds like a plan!! Gonna head out early tomorrow for a little sanding & fairing on inner transom, maybe put a little torn csm in the "cup holders". Then off to a Florida state league baseball game. Sure great weather for mid-May. Bet you're a bit cool up that way. Enjoy the wknd boys!!!

Re: 14' Larivee restore

first of all, Sam...what is this whole "....if your catching fish or not..." heresay? I ALWAYS catch fish, never get my lines in my prop(requiring me to jump in during 4' seas, by myself, to cut the mono off the prop), & never miss a gaff shot(but have lost many of gaffs)

I believe all the boat work talk and have seen the evidence.

... but all this fishing jabber, wing flapping, strutting, and crowing... well, it's just another fish story without pics and it reminds me of a question my ol' Pops always asks me when I start running off at the mouth about fishing. He says " Do all fishermen lie, or do all liars fish?"... Then I have to break out the pics to shut the old fart up.

Wow...what a mess this whole "upgrade" has been. I haven't been able to log on for wks. My password has had to be reset more times in the last 3 wks than Lebron James has made 3 pointers in the playoffs! So frustrating not to be able to chat with you guys. Unfortunately not a whole lot to report. The only progress I have made is to gel the inside of the transom & the triangles/pole holders. I'm officially at a stand-still...I can't for the life of me find a used bleacher plank for my seat idea. There is an entire complex of them just in the next town. The fields are closed & locked, for sale. Coincidentally, I have umpired...for free...at these fields at least 50 times...even broke my hand off a foul ball there once. Can't seem to get the city to unlock the gate for a little demo mission. Offered to compensate...no luck. Can't gel the sides until I figure out the seats. Won't finish/gel/non-skid the deck until I figure out the seats. In a bad funk...hotter than blazes here too. When I gelled the transom last wk, I only had about 4 minutes before things started to kick..cut way back on catalyst but still had to hurry. I hope my friends WOG, sphelps, & GT10000000000000000000 are doing ok. I have missed hearing from you. In addition to my funk....like woody, my trigger thumb is raging...scheduled the surgery for 2nd wk in July. If I don't get this work done now, it may be fall before I am able to get back to it. Disgusted!!

I got another Injection on the T-Thumb and it's helped a LOT for now!!! We'll see how long it lasts:rolleyes: Check out my Thread, lot's has been going on. Get an ice chest and set your Gel and Resin "On Ice" it'll help fool it into thinking the temps are cooler and it won't kick as fast!!!:joyous: It really works!!! Cheer up, it could be worse...You could live in Okie-Land!!!!:faint2:

Lots of rain in the area the last couple of days. More today. Actually nice to work with cooler temps. Summer is here! Yesterday, I finally dove into the seat braces. As many of you know, had the idea of using a bleacher seat for 2 bench seats. I struck out (pun intended) on obtaining them without breaking the law, so I have a buddy of mine fabricating them. In the meantime, there is some urgency due to my upcoming trigger thumb surgery, to get as much done that may involve a power tool. So yesterday, I PB'ed the braces in that will support the seats. Put a tab at the top, but will further glass in today. Without pictures, it never happened....

From what my Thumb Dr. told me, the Trigger Thumb surgery is "NO BIGGEEEEE" Takes 15 mins. 2-3 days rehab and you're good to go with a big band aid!!! I sure hope for your sake he's Right!!!

Yup, woody....sounds like it's gonna be a snap..just don't want to aggravate it any more than necessary after the surgery with a grinder. Using that devil's tool from H-E-double hockey sticks has been the root of all that is evil since this thumb injury. I'm hoping he'll slip me a little extra nighty night medicine before the surgery. I haven't had a good night's rest in years! Hi Sam....as far as the seats go, I am thinking about powder coating & then either applying some non-skid 3m tape or a slight non-skid of another sort (maybe as I did on casting deck). Probably a cushion of some sort will be made for each to snap on, but need it not too slippery or hot! That's why the bleacher plank would have been perfect with it's ridges. Oh well....my days of jumpin' over fences to "acquire" a used bleacher plank are well over...Got the starboard ones glassed in this morning with 1708 & csm. Needed to make a run to Glue Products for more supplies (gel, wax, 1708, resin)....you know....all the stuff we pour our hard earned $$$$$$ into..Port side tomorrow, then over to my fab buddy to measure up for seats & a mini-transom plate for the engine.....smell that?????....splash is getting ever so close!

Hope everybody is having a great start to the wknd...Got a little progress to share. Busy work week, but still managed to sand & prep the port side for gel. It is about 95 in the shade here, so I used WOG's idea of "fooling" the gel into thinking it was cooler..put the container I was using into another container with some ice & small amount of water in it. Really helped....was able to get each coat done with minimal waste to heat/kicking. I rolled on 2 coats without wax followed by 2 with wax...all back to back. Very happy with it. Back to work tomorrow, but I think I'm off 3 days this wk. Will get the starboard side finished as well as the casting deck bulkhead by next Saturday for sure. I've already requested some help from the son with the full deck. Thinking about using full size 1/4" nap rollers instead of the small foam ones I've been using. Don't really care about any nibs or naps as the deck will have nonskid anyway. Still, with the heat, think another set of hands might be helpful. Here's proof it all went down as stated....Enjoy the wknd...hope somebody's out boating/fishing/skiing/tubing...anything but gelcoating! before and after...oh and thanks woody for my surprise in the mailbox today...couldn't have come at a better time!!

Sam...so you're tellin' me now that I got her lookin' purty I have to take care of it? My arms are about to fall off!!! Yeah, I detailed the son's boat after we finished his but I don't remember what I used. Any suggestions?? Every summer I have newfound respect for all out landscapers, concrete/construction, ac, roofers....just don't know how they do it. And cops & firemen....wearing all that gear.....?????? Stay hydrated I guess is all we can do. Off Monday, Tues, Wed so should be able to make quick work of the other side. Enjoy Sunday....

Gelcoating becoming pretty normal behavior around here minch, but in these temps it does become rather challenging. Thanks to that old Okie's 2 cents, it went ok. Glad to hear I'm not the only one missing out on the fun!!

Just thinking , when I rolled the gell on my deck I never sealed it with anything and it stains quite easily . At some point I think I will take my seats out and re-gell . This time sealing it somehow . I think Decker posted a sealer on my thread . I need to go look for it ..
Enjoy your Sunday !
