Re: 14' Larivee restore

Oh yeah, I think I'm paid in full for the, "crap that can happen to Lisa", at least for a little while, Sam. You know, as I reported my progress last night, it was quite healing & revealing, reminding me that I DID get something accomplished. Rather have the pull rope break at the dock by my house, rather than far, far away, just as, if the boat was gonna darn near fall off the trailer, at least it was near home & some big boys willing to help! And so it goes...the sun is up today, & I'm ready to work. You guys have a great day!

Thanks woody!!! That's why I felt I could regurgitate all over you guys...knew you'd hold my hair back & hand me a cold washcloth. Yup, just one of those days, fortunately not many, but nevertheless, pretty poopy when it's a happening! Much better day today. Half the day is over & the cap is PB in & have already started some finesse work with a steroid version of microballoons(put a little cabosil in too). While things been a kickin', re-carpeted my bunks, & checked & tightened all hardware with the breaker bar. Can't have that little mishap too many times without causing severe damage. So, thanks again fellas...I'll shoot some pics & give ya an update soon. It's almost hump-day(which means my 4 day vacay is almost over). Think it'll do me some good to get back to workin' fer da man!!

Re: 14' Larivee restore

Been a tedious week, but progress nonetheless. So after my debacle/meltdown/clusterfart on Monday, the boat DID get flipped so I could work on the cap-gap. After some PB & a little fine tuning with my steroid-microballons, by last nite, she was ready for the reverse flip. Got it over, but man, what a heavy beast! (10 more gallons of resin & I'd have to name her "Bassassin Deaux". Despite the "it's so flippin' hot 90 degree oppressive heat today, got the gel done. The final result not perfect, but acceptable. So, will finish transom next. Quitin' time came early today. Hope everbody having a gr8 wknd!!

Re: 14' Larivee restore

oh...almost forgot...after transom, seat placement/fabrication/installation will commence. Anybody got any comments on using aluminum bleacher material for seats? Buddy of mine was suggesting just plain old aluminum & as we talked, the thought of using an actual bleacher seat, like you would see at a ballfield or school. I'm told they don't get hot & it would save on weight & no wood, no glass, nothing but install. Probably cover with some sort of snap in cushion anyway. Thoughts???

What's the plan to attach the bleacher seats to the hull sides? And are we going to read/see reports of odd neighborhood ballpark bleacher vandalism in the Boynton Beach area?

jb: you know me better than most...I had already picked out my dark/camo clothing to do an after-hours fieldtrip to my local ballpark. LOL! Actually, before looking for something like this, I thought I'd ask around at the city or local park to see if they have an old bleacher they have replaced. Might want to "recycle". Since I coached & umpired Little League baseball for 13yrs at the local park(our team made it to the LL World Series in 2003ish I think??), so think I'll start there. As far as attaching, it would likely involve some sort of wood block glassed into the inside of the hull, a ledge of sorts, that would allow the seat to sleeve right over it. Could then screw right down to the block. Not a fer sure yet, just one of many thoughts. Finishing transom comes this week in between some long work hours; then diligence on the seat fabrication. Any ideas from the likes of you would be graciously appreciated. Must go for now...practicing my catwoman-like skills for obtaining aforementioned bleacher!

Fantastic work on filling the cap gap!
Gelling looks amazing, too!
I like the idea of the aluminum bleacher seats, like ya said, light weight and I remember sitting on them in the hot Fla. sun and not having my biscuits burned...
Count me in for some fishin/grillin time!;)
Bassassin deux...:pound:

Re: 14' Larivee restore

Rainy morning here in "sunny" south florida....time for an update....I've been working on the transom the last couple of wks. Lots of filling in the nooks & crannies..some with steroid microballoons, some needed some csm patching, feathering, then fairing. So yesterday, knowing the weather was about to circle the bowl, I figured I'd put a coat of gel on, more as a primer if you will...just to highlight any areas that might need more attention. I was happy to see only a couple that I would be unable to live with forever & ever. After hitting those again with a sander & filler, I went ahead & finished. It was hot as bejesus & my gel was kickin' like a mule in a Volkswagen, but I got it done. Pretty happy with it. As you can see in pics, I also got the rod holders cut out in the Bermuda triangles. What's your thoughts on sealing them? Should I just resin, really well, or should I attempt to put a little torn csm on those edges? Also, hindsight...now that they are done...is there an easier way to cut these out? They were an absolute bear! Trying to get the angle, not burning up the drill thru the glass & wood you just beefed up, trying not to have the end of the drill hit the surface once you get almost thru....did I mention they were some bad arse mo fo's? Anyway...here's some proof that everything I said really did happen, not just in my imagination...

Morning GT! Little rainy down your way? I used hole saw. It was a challenge, fer sure. Just as I about poked thru other side the drill hit the top of the triangle(because of the angle). I know you'z guyz got better ways, but I'm a hard-headed gurllll who didn't ask fer directions BEFORE! So give it up...what's the secret?

Drill your centering hole all the way thru first. The use the hole saw from the bottom first and drill about 1/2" into the surface. Now go topside and finish up. That's how a Dumb Okie would try and do it.!!! :)

I've been busier than a 1 legged man in an arse kickin' contest the last couple of days, but OBVIOUSLY I need to address a couple things...first of all, Sam...what is this whole "....if your catching fish or not..." heresay? I ALWAYS catch fish, never get my lines in my prop(requiring me to jump in during 4' seas, by myself, to cut the mono off the prop), & never miss a gaff shot(but have lost many of gaffs). I thought you were my friend, & you go & slander me!! Proof!!!...you can't prove anything without pictures...never happened! Second, I can't believe fer a second that you guys missed the opportunity I gave you...a photo of my restore with a yellow paddle in it? Come on!! Surely I expected at least a, "hey Lisa, you get some rough water there on your patio," or "hey Lisa, paddle faster, I hear banjos". I don't often leave the tuna door as wide open as that! Yay...it's the wknd!

A yellow paddle is kind of masculine compared to my pink and white paddles:

Don't you think?

Hey, in certain circles that could be considered a High Visibility Safety Orange...sort of...well, maybe...
And as for a yellow paddle, That definitely qualifies as High Visibility...
Now mine...if it falls into the water where I fish it would just disappear into the background and become pretty useless...

......

Happy Weekend!
