Looking good Bear, I do like those 3/4 pin seat bases and pedestals.

Yeah those blocks look like some sort of redneck engineering to me.

Is there a weep hole at the bottom of the post hole? I got some trashed ones that I could hardly get the seat post up outta the base plate, rusty.... white lithium grease on the pins maybe?

Those blocks are just used for ramming glassers otta yur way when you are on the lake. Some guys use huge steel spikes, others 12" high speed spinning carbide tipped saw blades......back in the early days they started with wood blocks like that. I'm certain you can improve on the design.

Just don't tell yur Key West what you are up to!:heh:

Thanks H2O! I'm not sure what is the deal with the blocks? I've removed them for good...

Hey brutha, yes I have weep holes in the post holes. I'll be drilling a hole through each flotation foam piece so the water can drain to the bilge.

Now that is funny dooood! Kinda like Gladiators had crazy spikes and blades on the hubs of their chariots ... Key West is in deep storage so no worries...

The PO has these wood blocks mounted on both sides of the boat. No clamp marks on either, the starboard one is forward more than this port side one shown. Any ideas of what they were for? Bumpers? hummmm....

My guess is that those are home-made grab points for lifting the boat. Either to help adjust it on the trailer; - Or, perhaps this boat was beached by a lake side in its former life --> you know, one fishing buddy grabs one side - the other grabs the other side; they lift; shove and start fishing... Just my guess.

Hey gang,

update from the weekend...

Picked up some cool LED bow lights. I have a set on my Key West and dig how they look... Result = no worries clearing trolling motor with a post mount system.

Both sides of my front deck sanded and applied first coat of spar urethane.

Middle and rear bench tops removed, cut holes a for seat bases, sanded, and first coat of spar applied.

Nice set of nav lights, funny I was just shopping for lights myself. I like using the spar too, a few coats of it really makes the wood toughen up and it isn't 80+ bucks a gallon.

Those nav lights are shizzle..

Also, nice work on the spar.

This rig is coming along nicely. How long before you shove it off into a landfill? (just kidding, that was mean-spirited, I know).

Yeah where is PMC's glass boat?

First mate being Jackson he just doesn't care. Regardless seats are grey as with inside of hull and deck...

Sides of hull gloss white with small black stripe between the white and bare aluminum bottom...

Gluvit question...

I'm sanding as per instructions with 80 grit. I'm having issues getting all the paint removed around seams and the rivets as they are tall inside the hull. Any suggestions or ideas? Can Gluvit be applied over the paint if not 100% removed?

I think I'm just going to use paint stripper... stainless cup on grinder works but is removing material from the rivets..

The gluvit over paint will only work as long as the paint is well stuck, so I agree, removed. Stripper & some scouring pads should clean up around the rivets great

Aircraft remover in a spray can with a fine wire wheel on your drill. It will fly right off and not be as big a problem as using the goopy kind of remover with the slinging. Oh yeah and NO scraping required. :D
