Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Alright fellows here we go,i ended up lowering the motor twice before it got dark, its back down an 1/2" about were it was when i bought it,what a differnce, the numbers on the last 3 runs 5900rpm at 64mph and it shoots out of the hole :)I think i can do so more adjusting on it to get it better on the top end.those numbers are without the foil too.water pressure was great and could trim all the way up and the rooster tail was a little below the motor, which is good i think,i dont know if the prop made the difference but the turning is awsome too i can now make some really sharp turns ,even at around 50mph with some trimming down it will turn quick,im very happy so far with the results :) :) :) my fishing buddies are going to be surprised the next time i see'em when i shoot out of the hole and still run around 60mph :D do ya'll think i can get some more top end???Thanks D for everthing and you to wally and everbody else.

I do got a taste now and i want to go faster :D

Good to hear that, Ron!!
That's a classic example of why I try to listen to every word Dhadley has to say...things start to happen when we listen to him..... :D

Perfect! I would say that prop is doing what it's supposed to. You found the secret to getting the performance out of a prop with technology. Patience and testing. Good job Ron. How about steering torque?

Do we see a bigger motor in your future?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

There is very little steering torque,a whole lot less than the 4 blade.

No bigger motor<but i do want some ideas to make this one really go.I know that ya'll are up for that. :)

Do think putting the hydroil foil on will help with some topend?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

For as little work as it takes I'd try the fin. It shouldnt effect top end in theory. It may provide some tail lift which may or may not be a good thing. As long as you have it, I'd try it.

Whats the part number on the heads on the motor?

I put the foil back on,going to see what it does tomarrow,i have a tourny so i'll get to see what it does with partner and his gear in the boat.

The number on the heads is 338311, its painted in white, is these the right number?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Went back out with partner, the foil doesnt do well, you was right the tail comes up more, not getting as much bow lift, and when it it comes out of the hole you can fill the tail raise up and shove the bow down still was a good holeshot with partner and top end was 56mph at 5500rpm.with livewells full.

Pulled the hydroil foil back off.going to run it like this for awhile, doing real good, would putting some cup in the turbo give me a little more bow lift?seems if i get the bow up more i should run faster??

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Okay went out with a new partner and loaded up for fishing,The boat jumps out of the hole, rpms about the same5500-5600 around 55 mph with the foil off,i am throwing a rooster tail about 3'over the motor when its trimmed all the way up.im a whole better now than in the beginning, one thing thats troubling me i noticed on my long runs that it runs 5500rpm with just alittle over half throttle you can push it all the way to the floor and still runs the same rpm and mph whats a going on here?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Thats the 175 heads, thats good.

You could get a bit more bow lift by adding cup to the length. IE -- the cup should come around the tip and start down the front of the blade. We extend that cup by 1/2" or so. We don't change the amount of cup, just stop it further down the blade.

Sounds like you're doing pretty good with the tourney load. Have you tried going up on the plate slightly?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

I Lowered it when i took the whale tail off, before i didnt have any bow lift,i will raise up it up and try it,i shouldnt have to trim up as much, the more i raise the motor, is this correct? i can throw a good tail now but the water preassure is still great.Any idea about he acceleration?or is that a good thing?
(it runs 5500rpm with just alittle over half throttle you can push it all the way to the floor and still runs the same rpm and mph whats a going on here?)

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Okay, what are we doing wrong? After all my tweaking, I'm back to liking the three blade Tempest 25" over the 4blade yamaha 24". Boat finally feels right again.
Be trying some more props tomorrow with this same setup.
BUT, what are we doing wrong?
That bumblebee for sure ought to go faster than that and be stable. I'm not insinuating anything other than...BumbleeBees have a great hull design and are famous for their speed capabilities.
Not having the power to do it? Okay, that may be so...and, that may be both of our problems in this quest...but, why the chinewalk on a boat that does have a proven fast hull?
Is there a "place" where these boats are just going to "bobble"? Holding them at that speed just gets out of hand, and having the power to push them thru that area is needed to become stable again?
Does that make any sense?
I've heard from a couple of people that, we just need to get "thru it". The quicker the better and the boat should stable out.
Anything to that?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Yea brownie thats about it i do believe, were right in that grey area,i can handle most of my chimewalking now with driving the boat, but it still gets hairy at times,on yours i beleive the hydrolic sterring is hampering your ability to rock the steering against the walking,we definatly need to get some more speed and punch on through.D will get use straighned out this isnt going to be some quick fix i dont think.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Ron, Dh told me to get a Bobs torque tamer. I did.
It's funny how you notice something again and again and again...then you forget?
When I started all this I had torque steer. I "think" it was hard to turn to the right. Seems like all other boats I've had were the same.
When running that four blade the last time out...I noticed it was a "little" bit hard to turn to the LEFT.
IF I'm correct in the torque steer changing sides, I think that's a good thing. It means that once I settle in on props and set-up, I can then work on this TORQUE TAMER "last"...adjusting a little each time out until it's easy to turn both directions.
MAYBE??

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Today was the 1st time since I've raised the motor this far that I had a passenger. RPM's stayed the same 5800. Speed dropped to 60mph. Now that's amazing, in a bad way.... Only 150lbs in the passenger seat and 5mph slower.
I'll be working my back down with the motor now...sigh...

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

water pressure bobbled...prop "blew out" bad as it was breaking over on plane. Think I'm too high with the motor for two people.

You do realize that a month ago, this boat was running "right at" 60mph/5000rpm with a monster holeshot.... passengers made no noticable difference....and it was an IMPRESSIVE smooth, stable ride. Other than running WOT in turns. (just didn't corner very well).

Now it's acceptable one day, a turd the next....With too much money invested to back down now...lol.

Oh, forgot to mention.
It used to get HORRIBLE gas mileage.
Now it drinks oil like it used to drink gas.
As far as gas mileage? uhhh.......you can watch the gauge drop.
