Re: 1850 Tyee rod storage flooding
Just got the boat back from the dealership, but I'm not convinced the problem is solved. They filled the bilge with water and found no leaks on inspection of the hull. They also filled the live wells and found no leaks. The only thing they found, they said, was the circular inspection cover in the bottom of the motor well was loose, so they figure backwash was leaking past the o-ring on the cover. I repeated that I was at anchor when the rod storage flooded and they said maybe backwash filled the bilge just below the rod storage as I was motoring out to the fishing hole and then maybe folks walking around the boat while anchored caused water to flow into the motor well past the two drain ports in the transom and then leaked past the o-ring in the cover. Hmmm. I had to pump a heck of a lot of water out of the sump and the drain ports are fitted with one way valves so it all sounds just a little unlikely to me. And, aren't the drain ports in the transom supposed to drain the motor well in the first place?
But I guess stanger things have happened. They said if I take on water when I'm out next to take off the screens covering the intakes of the live wells and plug them up because the only thing it can be then is a plumbing problem, in which case they will have to take the floor apart and maybe take out the fuel tank to get at the pumps and hoses.
For now, I have the boat back with nothing changed except a coffee stain on the travel cover. Maybe I should send Lund a bill for the day and fuel I wasted today driving 100 miles to get to and from the dealership. All this is failing to make me all that happy, but I will certainly change my tune if it turns out to be that loose inspection cover after all. I can't see it, but I guess I will find out in a couple of days. Stay tuned.
