I have a model 4443 7.5hp Evinrude. Last year it seemed to overheat some. Is this due to oil mixture? I Believe i used 32:1 ratio. Also anyone know where I can download a manual for this beast. Thanks Mousty!

Run it at 24:1(5.5 ounces of oil to each gallon of gas) Only use a tcw3 oil.:D Also when was the last time the water pump was replaced?

I have a '50 7.5hp. No gearcase. Why do you think it's overheating? What were your signs? Does yours have the 3/8" sized hole halfway up the leg where the water just comes out in a light stream or does yours mix with the exhaust. And as sahara says it's 24:1, some even say 16:1 for the early models like that but I use 24:1 with good synthetic tc-w3.

Oh, and welcome to iBoats. You'll find great help here.

That motor has a single 1/4" hole normally just above the waterline that all the cooling water squirts out of. It should be squirting out several inches in a powerful stream.

Don't be cheating on the oil. It needs it. 16:1

I thought mine was bigger than 1/4" but maybe not... and several inches? hmmm... I don't think mine goes more than an inch... but will drop it on one of the boats once the river thaws :) it's starting to break up now...

I think FR has shares in the companies that make tc-w3!

A never ending arguement. Go as light as 24:1 if you think you must. That thing has aluminum connecting rods. For the miniscule amount of fuel that it burns, it isn't worth debating for me.

EDIT: Samo, I wish!!

Keep soaking the cylinders.
Don't try to force it, or the rings may break off.
Remove the lower unit to make sure that it is not frozen.

Re: 1952 7.5hp Evinrude

Well Guys thanks for the good tips, I let her soak overnite with ATM oil and acetone mix, took a wood peg to one of the pistons two small taps and she was freed up cylinders look great, took carbon build up off the piston heads cleaned head and put her back together getting 70psi compression looks good to me. Took carb apart need a gasket cant find so will make one, lower unit dry as a bone but no gear damage looks like she might have been filled with grease . Plus it had about 2 miles of fishing string wraped around the shaft behind the prop, looks like the seal type bushing has taken a beation will try and locate parts not easy cant wait to get her humming got a big kick when I held the spark plug wire and turned the flywheel so she has juce.
