She is GORGEOUS. I hope you can get her in the water on schedule. There is just something about the way wood boats look that just makes them more attractive over fiberglass sometimes. My dream is to one day do one of the Chris Craft wooden boats like the one below but as usual the project and dream will have to wait until space/money/time all line up correctly. You have done some great work, compliments are always nice to hear but all that really matters is if you love it. Keep up the good work man.

Well thank you very much!! And I do love it :) good luck with your future projects and hopefully you will be able to redo an ole woodie soon :D

I got the windshield on today and the MC #'s also. The windshield I think looks sweet!! Reminds me of one of those 1950's rat rods or something.

Great looking windshield!

It's always been a good looking project, but it's turning out to be GREAT!

Hope you plan an extra 1-2hrs each way when you trailer her to your favorite launch site. Going to attract a lot of attention.

Very slick lines on your boat there. The windshield does add a touch of class to an already sweet looking day boat.
What Michigan waters will you be "showing" this boat on?

Re: 1960 Luger Matador Restoration

Well thank you guys!! You are all very kind. Greenbush I will be boating on several lakes in MI I usually make it back home to visit the folks and the rest of the family, and that is Coldwater MI. But I work a little towards your neck of the woods, Livingston county. So I will be out there with friends, probably lake thompson or another one over in Brighton they seem to make it to pretty often.

Today Im about to leave for Coldwater for the maiden voyage. My father will be with me for that he's the base for my all my boating knowledge and has been actively owning and working on boats since he was a teenager. So I figured no better place for things to go GREAT or bad lol.

I will have some pictures for you guys tonight or tomorrow of her all wet LOL Take care :))

So the splash went well! The boat floats and there's no leaks lol I did however have a couple of issues, First off I hooked the steering up backwards right was left left was right lol That's an easy fix though. However I did have some engine problems. The Johnson seems to be running consistently only on the top cylinder. Every once in a while the bottom cylinder fires and she goes like Mad. I changed out the plugs and that seemed to help a bit. But it still only consistently running on the top. I'm not sure where to go from here anyone with any advice I would greatly appreciate it! We did still take it for a little cruise around the lake nothing long though and that was nice :)

That is one sweet little ride. You did a magnificent job on the restoration. Boats like that are pieces of art.

Did you replace the magneto's? Are you getting consistent spark to both plugs?

Wood on glass Im a complete novice with engines. It's inconsistent spark on the bottom cylinder while running whether cold or warm engine. Top cylinder is always getting spark. I removed the flywheel today and inspected the points one point is very clean the other is fouled with carbon. I'm going to use some sand paper and clean the points but m not even sure what the magneto looks like or the coils. Are they in this pic?

My bad, I meant Coils. See pic... If you need a source for parts this is a good one...

Laing's Outboards | New Parts | Johnson Evinrude

If the points were fouled that could very well have been the issue. Do you have the manual for the motor? The Plugs are gapped @ .030 and the Points are .020

I don't have the manual, but the motor cover did say the plug gap. I'm going to clean the points with some sand paper and see what happens. But I also found napa has a tune up kit. Points and, condensers for like 20 bucks and if need be will go that route. Thanks so much woodonglass for putting that diagram together for me!

Re: 1960 Luger Matador Restoration

Another problem solved and another man save hundreds of dollars by the iboats heroes!!!!!!!! :D

So I took look at my points, And noticed that they weren't coming together flush. So instead of messing with old parts I decided to buy all new. I went to Napa And bought the tuneup Kit. I replaced the points and condensers Set the gap. And checked for spark I had spark on both cylinders. I put everything back together and fired it up, She's now running consistently on both cylinders!! Thank you so much for all of your help, The kind of person that's willing to help a unanimous guy on the Internet out is truly a good person!

It sounds like I might need a little bit of carburetor adjustment, But at least we're running on both cylinders to start from. Once again thanks a million!!!
