That Falcon looks like it has a beautiful potential (with its deck intact) :D

Great find for $80, heck even $90 is a good deal. LOL I see a nice little side console and raised deck in front. F1 coming to bat! :D

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Thanks guys. It'll be in storage for a bit - gotta get J II completed and on the water this spring. No doubt a great summer/fall project.

Interesting note, I also saw an 18 to 20 footer just sitting beside a bunch of scrap boats near my cottage.... thinking I will find out in the coming months what he wants.... too big a boat for me... but perhaps someone here might want it. Might get it for next to nothing given the condition of the buildings and surrounding boats. I'll post it up if there's something to it.

Cheers fellas.

Real nice project boat you found Jim. The hull looks to be in good condition. The smiles on the kids faces makes be think they are okay with your MBS.

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Thanks Glen.

Hull is pretty good... some dock rash here and there... but nothing that a little sand paper won't clean up.

Kids have gotten used to going and retrieving boats from death row now! I may or may not have mentioned... but this boat was scheduled to go the dump last Saturday. The only reason it did not was that I promised to come and pick it up on Sunday.

Truly, a new lease on life.

Wonder if this one is too small for a center console...

SCORE! Great find. I think that would make a nice little center console set up. But try to keep the cap intact, or some of the starmada may come after your head :) Keep us posted!

Heck no. About 18" wide with one seat behind it and a small cooler topped with a seat pad in front of it will give plenty of room to get around either side. She'll make a great, easy to handle, fun CC.

As far as cutting the bow cap - she was 24 hours from turning into beer cans! Cut away, IM. Follow Jason's lead for tin butchery on his Jet. Fashion up a neat little CC carrying adult beverages contained in the beer cans made possible by quitters. *

*NOTE - I know that tinnies are scrapped because the hulls have been left to deteriorate to the point of no return, for example J1.. But too often owners are too willing to scrap because they think it's worth more - these are the quitters I'm referring to.

GA, right on the money. Starcraft tinnies are a chef's mixing bowl --- you never quite know what you're going to get... but it's an awful lot of fun going about it!!! Sometimes like J II its ingredients are close to the original directions (with some tweaks!). Other times you can just totally mix it up and see how it turns out. That's the truly genius part about tinnies. You don't have to be a highly specialized trades person to turn out a half decent end product and you don't have to spend a fortune to have it look half decent and have a blast doing it and enjoying it!

The purist will say leave it. The non purist will say hack it. Either way, IMHO, their both right.

Great buy, how could you pass up a deal like that? Even I, who have pubilcly sworn off another restoration project EVER, would have bought that! [I'm scaring myself!] :D

Nice find, I'm still playing catch up with the tin nation. Glad you avoided the revokation hearing. Those things are such an ordeal!

Whose cutting what? Center console, side console?? What I miss???

Hey BD - the falcon is now up north at the cottage ready to begin phase 1 - The Gut... As far as going with a CC, sc or as is --- time will tell... I need a little more stare time with it! I was really set on going sc with a bowectomy.... but given its smaller size I am questioning it. Should be interesting!

Just some feedback for ya...

It was a lot of extra work but I was really glad I chopped the bow otta mine, made it a whole lot bigger boat!

Now, if I were to redo I would do one thing different. I'd make the bow deck bigger or push the console forward to close up the space in between. Or a little of both. Check it out...

That space wasn't very usable the way it was, course the hatch would have to go topside then too...

Jason man... appreciate the thoughts... I would agree with what you said. The boat came with 4 pedestal seats... so, my original plan was 1 at the front, 1 at back and 2 in middle for driving. It's a 14' boat... so my thought was that it would be stable enough and roomy enough for 2 adults and 2 kids to fish ---- but it would be difficult to accomodate that with the bow in. I just flip flop a lot when planning --- a failing (among many!!!)... but nonetheless, I knowhatchamean!

IM - That's call weighing options. Eventually the scale balances and then you know you got it!

Darn you guys, now I have to do some serious thinking about the bowectomy concept. I do want a pure fishing boat, but I hate to take away from the original Falcon look. Decisions, decisions.

And I thought I stole my Falcon at $200.

Bowectomy will really open it up... but it really will not be a Falcon anymore.... so...whattodo??!!!

Keep in mind $80 Canadian is prolly like $300 Franklins... :)
