Hey IM - ya gotta consider the source of such embarrassing comments. He all but finishes a boat and then grabs a can opener.:facepalm::lol:

This one will be a challenge, but I have faith. Rock on, my tin brother.

I don't get the juniper reference, but I love the plan for the boat. I'll see if I can find the link to that Starcraft conversion. I've got it around here somewhere.....

Thanks man! Great example...

Juniper reference.... yah, dummy me made a spelling error for the title of my Jupiter restore and called it the Juniper restore way back when. In typically graceful fashion, some (Jas) and others (names with held) thought I should be in the "arborist" section of iboats --- not the Starcraft Boats section --- and have never lived it down!

But Jim - Look what you turned that pile of twigs into, even with the interruption of unfixable corrosion, JII is gorgeous. :) Maybe that's where your wood fascination began? You hang some good looking wood trim on tin. :thumb:

Make a nice Muskoka cruiser, love the idea. Pedestal seats though would spoil the look.

Hey dw.... Thanks for stopping in! Gotta go with the pedestals as this boat is really not that wide. However, $$$ will be spent on some nice seats... Will keep it more open and lighter. The fixed Seats are great though in that pic!

Gotcha. I just picked up a 1971 Starcraft Falcon last week and am experimenting with layout as well. Living down here on Lake Eries best Bass fishing bay I will be laying it out for fishing. I will shoot some pics of my tentative layout and post them. Yesterday I picked up a 1971 Mercury 500 4 cyl to go with it. Should be fun.

I have a 66' version of that motor that will be going on the Falcon! Nice little motor --- smooth and light! Sounds good ---look forward to seeing your layout.

That's the beauty of these boats --- from 14' to 26' --- you can custom design it to be what ever your heart desires! Like I have always said --- never knock a man's hobby nor his vision of a StarCraft layout! If it works for you, power to ya man!!!! :)

Have a great one!

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild

So I got this call yesterday evening at dinner from my Mom....

She was struggling to breathe....

Really didn't know what to do....

And in a lot of pain...

It was completely surreal. I was able to calm her down so that her breathing was more normal and get her to explain that her an my Dad had been in a bad accident. Someone had run at back roads speeds, right through a stop sign and she and my Dad had hit her at about 80km/h or 50mph square on, and ended up in a ditch after going through 3 large wooden posts.

The ambulance had been called by others but she and my Dad wanted me there asap...

When I got there this is what I saw...

Ya.... except it was in the forest... in the night.... in the rain.... and what was even more surreal was that my Dad was being rushed to the hospital on a back board and my Mom was being taken out of the car on a back board in agony!

So... here is why I am posting this... sometimes we look at these boat builds as a way to get a cheap boat. Sometimes for therapy. Sometimes for just the fun of it. Sometimes for profit. Sometimes for pleasure. Sometimes for the challenge.

I realized through many hours of being in ER last night that our time on earth is to short regardless of whether we live to 100 or 30 --- so the reason is less important than the fact that we find enjoyment in doing it and that we actually do it! You just never know when your time is up... for my folks, they came very close to ending their time on this earth.

It was a real wake up call for me, my family and close friends to embrace every moment, to focus on the moment and to put aside all those silly issues that bug us all and just let them be!

They are beginning a long healing process --- physically, mentally and psychologically. They and we will all recover.

Enjoy.

Jim

PS --- The Falcon will get started shortly... It's time. :)

Wow, Jim hope they are okay. As the guys above said hope for a speedy recovery. And you are so right, a person has to dwell on the good things in life, cuz it is just to short to waste your life on the bad stuff.
