Great job on the videos Jim. The flour idea worked perfectly. I picked up six liters of Safe Strip while I was in the city Friday, so I will be set one I get to the Holiday.

Thanks Jim. I usually sand the hulls down, but this one I have right now needs stripping. I think they used a house paint or interlux.

You made that look real easy.

GA_Boater - As soon as I heard flour I was thinkin' flying skillets any second. :scared: Glad you asked the Admiral. :)

That's a great tip to thicken the goop for side stripping. Thanks loads. :D

Yup asked for permission this time --- the Admiral got a new cast iron frying pan!

anderso8623 - Would have loved to pick Mine up for that! Id take a broken motor for that price! Nice score! ]

Thanks man! I like it too....

jbcurt00 - Nice work figuring out the flour thickening agent.

As expected, E3 & 4 were also great, thanks for taking the time to shoot & post the videos.

Sounds like a 'new' way to polish a hull is pending in E5 or 6

Thanks man --- thickening agent... catchy name there...
Yup might be E7 or E8... but coming after I strip the rest and clean er up!

jasoutside - I think it's good you are including marriage advice in your boat building vids buddy

I seriously think what we do is one part boat rehab one part try not to get thrown out of the house

Cheers

Marriage advice I think we call all use that on like a daily basis! :) I'm still working on trying to not get thrown out of the house part.... I made the "Shed" nice enough that I could live in it if needed!!!

dozerII - Great job on the videos Jim. The flour idea worked perfectly. I picked up six liters of Safe Strip while I was in the city Friday, so I will be set one I get to the Holiday.

Thanks man! Worked out well... glad you were able to get some of the SS!

Thanks CJ --- it really is as easy as it looks in the vid's.... no fuss no muss!

---- Spent the morning at the hospital with my Dad --- again! My opening statement to him was "should I be purchasing a season's pass for emerg?"!!! He has a kidney stone... I had 3 about 10 years ago... and they were not pleasant. Good news is will be just fine once it passes....! Fun!!

Have a great day fellas!

Glad the Pops is going to be OK, IM. No fun with kidney stones at all.

I gotta ask - What kitchen product will be used in the next video? Might be early since you are still cleaning off the rest of the paint. And you won't know until you search the pantry. :D

Thanks GA!

Mmmmmmm.... I have at least two products already lined up for the next couple of episodes... I haven't broached the subject yet with the Admiral.... she needs some help with a number of things... so I think I will chat AFTER the tasks are done spectacularly well! :)

PS - Since I was taking the flour in little doses... I got a whole bag given too me... perhaps some concern that mixing household food stuffs and paint stripper wasn't the best of idea for the family.... mmmmm prolly right again there!

You need a name for the Webisode series, Jim. "The Cookbook of Boat Restoration", "Rebuilding a Boat - From A to Z Including the Kitchen Sink" or "Bringing a Boat back to Life Using Ordinary Household Ingredients (subtitled What The Admiral Never Knows Can't Hurt)"

:D

^^^

Is there a remedial course? Tin boat building for dummies? I think I need to start there.

But: Zen & the Art of Tin Boat Building gets my vote..

^^^Esp given all the pearls of wisdom for our daily lives & for staying in the Admiral's good graces

On behalf of my Admiral & Admirals everywhere, thank you!

We need some chapters, too. "Cake, Self-Rising, Bread or Whole Wheat - The Best Flour" and "You Can Use a Toilet Brush For Almost Anything". And the "Best Hiding Places For Skillets" along with "Pickle Jars - Who Knew?"

Excellent vids. I love it. Fruit wreath is not working though. How about a white circle about two foot (3/4 m) with the number 99 in it? Think it over, in my case of course I'd have a #9 in it. Snazz up that Starcraft cave for sure.

Keep up the awesome work.

Thanks BD!!! And welcome back!!

Fruit wreath --- to stay or to go.... maybe we need a vote.... is Starmadia a democracy???? Hmmmm I wonder.... It seams to distract some.... so perhaps some suggestions for "sprucing it up".... or do we need to eliminate it to make sure that those that work on Tinnies have some kind of spine and can stand up to the Admiral!

Not sure that'll go over to well! :)

Ps --- there will be a video update tomorrow.... but a bit different than normal.... :)

Have a great evening fellas!

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Curious thing happens when you mix flour and paint stripper and leave it for 10-12 hrs: the flour absorbs the paint stripper and results in a crusted yellow phlegm on the side of the boat! New rule: if you mix it with flour... leave it for a lot shorter of a time --- like 2-4 hrs.

Here is the result on the side... couldn't finish as I ran out of paint stripper...

The hull is pretty much done save a little bit right at the front that I left the paint stripper on too long...

Last but not least, I thought you guys might like to see a quick vid of me trying to do something completely un-boat related and not doing it all that well! Ya... I know it really isn't supposed to do this all that well.... I likely would have worked better the night before! Ended up doing it the ole manually way in the end!

Here it is:

Have a great Monday fellas!!!

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Morning Jim, just put my first coat of Safe Strip on the bow, we will see how it works on three coats of paint.
Looks like you will have to go back to the shovel for snow, but I bet it would work good for cleaning off the vehicles.

Maybe something from the kitchen would help. Like the Admiral with a shovel. :fish: :joyous:

Kind of like "rum runners" we could have "stripper runners"...uh...I mean…”paint stripper runners” lol! That river is bound to freeze with this weather!

But seriously, I am trying to get a hold of this stuff as well.
