The kids better have fun after all the work I put into this so far.

Now I have the hull flipped & have sanded off all the paint down to the white gel coat. The paint that was on there had runs everywhere and was peeling in a lot of spots. I used 40 grit to get all the paint off and used 120 grit to get rid of the circles left by the 80 grit. I will go over the hull a final time with 220 grit and hopefully by then my to quarts of Pettit EasyPoxy topside paint will arrive before this weekend comes. Here are the before and after pic's

Looks great!

I have been following this thread closely and I can't wait to see it finished

I just have to get my steering issue solved, some minor odds and ends and hopefully launch date in two weeks

if you paint with the roller method just go slow and steady and it will turn out great

Man, as I've said before-I'm glad I didn't get a glass boat. Although I like the lines of a glass over aluminum. You're doing a top notch job there and you may just see us down your war in the near future.

For this year we've planned a two week stay at Smith Mountain Lake. Next year I'd like to try and do something down in your neck of the woods. BTW, My wife and I grew up where the Cowpasture and Jackson rivers converge to make the James.

Keep up the good work. That's gonna be an awesome boat when you get it finished!

This is a very slow thread Chris, I hope the 4th doesn't pass without a update :D

hey keepNitreel,

slow progress is better than no progress..

(no progress like mine).. the most I have done to my boat lately is get the water off tarp covering it, and re-tie some ropes to take up the sags in the tarp...

at least your working on it.. your quiet support group is here

Got the trailer done over the weekend, primed with rustoluem for heavily rusted metal & painted with rustoluem royal blue. Went to HD and picked up some PT , outdoor carpet and some new nuts and bolts also stopped in Bass Pro Shop to buy a new trailer light kit with the Bass Pro Shop gift card I got from my manager. Well that's enough typing, here's the pic's

Re: 1961 14' runabout

Forgot to mention that the paint came in, it arrived UPS ground 2 days after I ordered it, glad I didn't pay for 2nd day air.
I'm watching the weather real close, they're calling for off and on showers this weekend, with no garage I guess no boat painting this weekend
Can't do anything else on it until the paint job is done, that's why I went ahead and did the trailer while I had down time.

If you take it apart....... remove the lenses ........... you might be able to get it replated after it has been polished smooth.

Ha that light looks like a close relative of some things that came off my boat!:p I just winged my stuff and bought brand new. Unless you wanted it cuz its old - id jst throw it and buy a new one. Navigation lights are not too expensive.
