Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Hi Bear, thanks for dropping in and checking her out. I appreciate the compliments, but my work pales in comparison to a lot of others I've seen here at iboats...gotta luv the inspiration they supply :D

Glad to see you back out on the boat Kenny...Its sucks to know you could be out there getting stuff done and the weather won't cooperate. We have some rain today.

The transom- was it bad, or are you just rebuilding it, so you know its done right and will last you?

Hi David, it was rotten where the bolts went through...motor mount, tie-downs and the extra carp the PO had attached...the rest was almost as solid as new.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Took it easy today{I'm old what can I say, lol} cleaned up the shop a tad, found enough leftover ply to cut out the outside transom piece, and applied some stain & epoxy resin over it{both sides}. Also removed the layers of paint on some of the hardware...corners, the tie-down U bolts{forgot to get a beforehand photo} and the only side rub rail end I've removed so far...not in the best of shape{pitting} but better than before...onto the honey-do's :(

I see. Well, with your level of work, when its done, you know it it will last forever.;) Looking forward to seeing it progress as the weather warms up.

Kemmy,
Good Work..your story telling is second to none..A one piece transom coming out is a beautifull thing...and great job on the paint removal...

Hey HSF,
I'm glad to see you back at it again. I needed some reading material. I love the modified Jack too, I went out and bought a bigger jack to use last weekend. Great minds think alike, ( as well as demented ones) :p:rolleyes:
Glad to have you back.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Pauly, thanks...and yes I've been known to tell stories ;)

Bob, Glad to be back on it and to offer some throne appropriate reading.
ah yes, a bigger jack would be nice, like the bigger hammer..it always comes thru!

Tim thanks, but EZ, along with his bud 'billy bass' should get credit for inspiring me to kick things up a notch.

Zach thanks as well, yeah I'm gonna miss that extra seating too{LOL}

Jas, thanks again!

No new updates, as I've been playing with the imperial the last day or so...getting it presentable to list...could use the few bucks and definitely the space. As Jas mentioned in his thread, we're due for a dose of rain days so things will probably shift back into crawl mode...beats snow any day!

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

...Kenny I believe your rig may be a '62...

Well, erm, Uhmm...used both eyes today and you may be right H.A., I 'do' have 'two' step pad thingy's per side, as in the link/photo you posted...so who know's for sure.

I do know however, I won't run short on gluvit, iboats is out of stock on the 2 lb kit, so I ordered the 8 lb. Figure on coating the transom skin while the wood's out{new one is built and has one side coated in epoxy}.

Let's see what else...oh yeah, bought my decking{3/4 acx exterior $23.97 a sht HD special :)}. Smoke grey rustoleum paint{& primer}, rusto white as well{two tone job is the plan}. 4 gals epoxy resin in route for the decking, probably way to much, but I always seem short when needed. Add in rollers, trays, brushes acetone etc...easy half $G, along with drain tubes{for SC & the imperial} misc motor parts{fuel lines I got locally were too wimpy in the bends}.

Today was yard duty day, with two dogs and a long winter finally thawing, it needed a complete overhaul...did manage time to finally remove the step pads, side rub rail inserts & ends, last cleat and the stern light housing, and the {i believe homemade} bow tip casting....lot's of fun stuff to tackle in the shop now, what with rain forecast for the next 4 days. Still need to pick-up foam and a sheet of ply for the side panels along with 364,983,217 & 1/2 odds & end's i'm sure{lol}........Hope this finds you all in good spirits or at least holding some in a glass ;)

My wife does have a new garden on the back corner of our lot on my list for this spring. Going to have to get a couple loads of top soil. Fun.
