Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks VPMan, But Bob's got me way out-classed in the woodworking, I'm just to {ha ha} frugal{ie:cheap} to hire things done and not patient enough at times...I appreciate the support of all of you folks here, I wouldn't stand a chance without all the great help!

Hi Tim, nothing fancy there, just some sort of plastic container the mrs sent out here to the garage along with the empty coffee cans...drill a couple of oversized holes on what will be the front to allow access to opposite side smaller holes for attachment, & cut off the bottom...It's kinda flimsy though so I may hunt around here for a piece of pvc pipe...Thanks for looking!

How's that song go?..."one thing leads to another"...
As some of you know, I've been doing the odd & end things I can here in the shop, while waiting for the spring thaw. Just finished up rebuilding the carbs and replacing the water pump, and today I got the first coat of paint on the motor. As I was taping it off beforehand, I had the 'just great' pleasure of realizing that the water intake screen is shot. When I went to place some tape as plugs in front of the inlet holes, the screen crumbled...lovely, get to pull the lower unit and water pump housing AGAIN {this will be the third time in a week lol sad}. Maybe one day I'll actually learn to investigate before diving in... aw well, it's getting easier every time at least.

What do you think of my latest logo idea for the motor? Thats the Seahorse logo for those not familiar...I'm really not interested{read as cheap} in going stock decals, but it needs something. Btw, this is just a photoshopped look-see.

Glad to see some of you still able to work on your hulls...come on spring!!!

The paint looks really good. I agree with ezmobee on the decals. I have always liked original too. If you still decide to go the route of paint then it could be outlined in another color.
Perhaps you could use the rope trim to do the letter's in the name. :D:D:p

Thanks Bob, that rope trim's gonna be the death of me yet lol.

I really should just pm EZ when I have any doubts/inquiries..those prices he posted are way better than I imagined....once again, Thankyou EZ, and you did an awesome job of appying them on yours...any trouble spots?

Thanks. I did have a couple small air bubbles but nothing major. I was pretty much a newb at installing decals. As you can see on mine, I have the stripes pretty well lined up with the top and bottom of the cowl, but they aren't parallel with each other. So you may want to modify them a bit if you want to make it perfect.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks VPMan, it's killin me trying to decide what I want to go with, now that I know pricing is in the ballpark either way..decisions decisions  .....might just put it on hold until I get further along with painting, maybe once I figure out the color scheme, the decision will be easier...at least one choice is always easy...any cold beer will do :D thankyou

Well, the decision is made... for now. After giving it more thought, I wanted something more than stock, and wasn't real happy about borrowing from elsewhere, so this is what I came up with...Nothing fancy, but it's mine :) now just need to come up with something for the fore & aft ends of the cover, it should give me something to do while watching the snow come down

ps: the color is not quite well represented here, but you get the jist.
Hope all's well with you guy's!

Thanks Pauly, up till this design, they were photoshopped...these are the real thing{lol} I put on a couple of coats of liquid glass first{..wax. McQuires i think it is} makes it real easy to remove and reposition them. Once I make up my mind where {and what i'm going with} I'll remove the wax then hope like he!! I place them on right.

HopeSheFloats,
Hey, look at it this way it's your own original, like the rest of the restored boats.
I think they came out pretty nice.

Re: 1961 Starcraft - 'The whole' story

Thanks Bret & Bob...
Think I got figured it out...not customized, but 'personalized', though that may give credit to some saying "personally, that sux" lol...ohhh the brain warpage & sickness cabin fever can bring...maybe I'll look for a scale model boat/ship to work on :p
