Awsome Jim, the trailer looks like it overkill size wise for the boat. Looks like you will be looking for some bub rail as well. Great looking boat. If your interested I have a complete windshield off the little tri hull I had.

Nice pile of junk, I mean lots of junk. Aw, Jim - I mean nice box of parts. LOL. You even have a Jason horn. The splashwell drain is strange, but what can you do when people fiddle with these old gals for almost half a century. Is the Merc a 1964 like the Jet? My 500 shoves me at 32 mph or 51.5 kph for the metrinauts. Hey, I like the sound of 50+ instead of 32, has a better ring to it. The Merc 500 thimbles (pistons) are 2 9/16 in., so not that small and it's 44 CI or 721 cc. And it's a relative gas sipper. A 6 gal. tank is good for as much 3 trips, depending how far I run on the lake.

You got a good one, Jim. :D But one more question. How many TFSAR waypoints did you set during the trip?

IM: Great looking Jet!

Jet or Jet Star?

Looks like you're missing the 2 gunwale endcaps. If you haven't given it a read, that recent 'Endcap fab how to' thread looks like it makes pretty good replicas. Cut them yourself, find a welder locally to weld 'em for you....

Thanks Glen! Trailer is super beefy --- but rides great! Fortunately, I have a extra rub rail from JI... so I am good there... as well, I didn't show it but I have a fully intact windshield for it --- but thank you!

Thanks GA!! Yah... I've gone and got a boat with a horn this time :D It's a 1965... interesting on the pistons... good to know it's decent on gas too!

TFSAR????

Thanks JB --- I don't know if it's a Jet or Jet Star actually... It doesn't have the little plaque --- at least one that I could find yet. I have the gunwale endcaps!! They were in my trunk... :) Painted a lovely green.

One other thing I was going to mention is that amazingly the transom wood seams sold as a rock... I poked and banged it with a screw driver all over the place and there is now rot that I can see. In any case, I'll pull it and seal it up... musta been that fancy splash well drain system! :D

Tinnies For Sale Along Road

Is that an air horn? It looks like the yellow thing in the parts box is a compressor.

lol.... not sure on the air horn.., but there was a windshield wiper motor!

Wiper motor! Isn't that a step up - was it you that had a manual wiper on one of the windshields?

Yup.. JII... works uselessly... sticks straight up in the air when over 30 mph... but the kids love it! So it stays and is totally cool with me!

Pics look great IM.

The Merc 500 is a great motor, had a '67 on my old Crosby FG. Pretty sure 73Chieftain still has it.

So is this one boat for everyone in the family, or are you still looking.

Nice bones for restore. Looks like a Jet to me with the holes in the gunwale for the back brackets of the bench seats. Missing the tray that attaches to the dashboard. Box of parts looks pretty complete. Good restoration to you.

Thanks man... I actually have the tray... as the PO had pretty much gutted the boat... but I won't be using it this time either. Lot's of parts came with the boat... just the rub rail is missing chunks but I have some from J1 so I should be good to go there.

Re: 1964 Starcraft Jet - Rebuild

Ok... wee bit of a bummer tonight... I lifted off the Merc 500 and carried it into the garage and put it on the stand I have for motors --- a bit awkward to get it up on the stand ---- but other than that it went well. Problem is that in the bright lights of the garage I noticed that above where the gears are housed in the lower end there is a hair line crack!! Bummer.

So... I am on the hunt now for a lower end for this motor! It is a short shaft to boot --- so this may take some time! Something is bound to be available somewhere for this motor...

Re: 1964 Starcraft Jet - Rebuild

Someone @ a glass build used JB Weld @ a crack in the LU housing.

If you can get it apart, & there isn't any water damage to the internals, might get lucky & drill both ends of the crack, and JB it :)

Might want to confirm it's cracked THRU to the inside, and not a surface defect. Seems ya like ya got lots of good karma around. Maybe use up some of the excess for the LU... & get lucky :D
