Since you have the hull brackets already on both sides, how does a plank & 'typical' fold-down seats mounted to the plank sound? You can use swivel or swivel & slide bases. Lets you get mounted fairly low in the hull, but if you're tall, slide back from the wheel some for comfort & ease of getting in & out (swivel helps alot w/ that too)....

^^^ +1. Form, function, comfort and storage all-in-one.

Floor is looking good Jim!

Re: 1964 Starcraft Jet - Rebuild

Alrighty fellas! Got a whole bunch of little things done on the boat that were nagging me! Too many to list but... here is a shot of the inner rub rail removed, boat cleaned up and rivet's sanded up.

Found the transom top cap from Jupiter I that I kept as well as some track pieces that I will use pieces of for the side panel tops.

I will be doing some stare time Tuesday morning as well as a final spar of the floor getting it ready for the deck master that I ordered on Friday.

I also need to get the transom bolted in place and the splash well back in. I think I will start building the structure for the back sun deck and the seat so that I know the position of everything.

But next will be the dashpad, dash and front seat top ---- which will be curved like the dashpad!!! I feel that will give it a really nice look!! :)

Have a great day fellas.

Great progress Jim, I'm pretty much down to little boring things on the 201, and kinda procrastinating. Waiting for parts. Sitting thinking in a StarCraft is good therapy.

Thanks guys... Glen: Procrastinating is still technically doing something boat related... so progress is still progress! :) GA - Thanks man. Ya... JI keeps on giving... many parts left! I am excited to get moving on the interior. Just gotta get some other interior stuff completed first.

Re: 1964 Starcraft Jet - Rebuild

Alrighty fella's...actual work being done north of the border.... whooo whooo!!!

First, gotta confess.... picked up some wood for the dash and dash pad... thought, no problem getting away with a 10" board for the dash. Even went so far as to cut the arc the works.... but forgot one rather important part... the lower part of the dash has a shwoooop down. Oops. So, I will use it somewhere! So...

Here are a couple of shots of the in process dash piece:

It needs a fair bit of work yet... but it's coming along now!

Just to show... there are even more pieces for the sides!

And a little more proof that there is actual action on the interior! Triple work bench --- layered 2x4"'s for sanding manually, mini work bench for holding the belt sander, big work bench for everything else.

So there you have it... the interior has begun.

Next steps:

Finish sanding the dash and getting the curve just right.
Getting the top gunwale side pieces cut and temporarily screwed and sanding and in place
Begin the seat structure and seats
Then the side panels
Also the front bulk head

Yikes!!!! Ok... No more talkin'. Gotta get workin'!!!!

Have a great evening fellas!

It's gonna look good, the wood gives it a sharp look. Are you concerned at all about driver leg room with the flat floor & the swoop?

Thanks LL.. Ya... I am a bit. That's why I snapped the second pic... the first one made it look like there was hardly any leg room at all... but in fact there is a fair bit. Gotta make a temporary seat, make some vroooom vroooom sounds and see. All part of the sanding/trimming process man!!! :)

looks cool Jim!

if the legs are getting in the way, can you invert the "swoosh"; would make a slick gauge panel?

IM - Your dash is gonna be awesome. :D What is it with you Kanucks and a piece of wood? Too much time whittling while waiting for the snow melt I guess.

You see we have to learn to work with sub standard material, because all our Good A grade lumber goes to the US and Japan, so this means our skills have to be hones to a fine edge.:watermelon:

Thanks man! Gonna add a whole lot more curves as the weeks go on too!!

Thanks JB!! Yup, just wouldn't be the same without some shhhhhhwooping wood mixing in with some metal!

BlueFin16 --- looks cool Jim!

Thanks BF! Ya... I had thought of that too... but the steering wheel is pretty close to the bottom of the new dash... actually the left hand side is only about a 1/2" lower than the old dash and the right had side is maybe 2" lower... just looks more dramatic I suppose!

jasoutside --- Totally agree, well done

Thanks man! Just trying to keep up with the my US tin brothers ya know!!!

Thanks Glen! Much appreciated... lots more to do... but at least a start in the right direction!

barato2 --- add me to the list. dash is lookin great. what kind of wood did you use?

Thanks B2!!! As usual, went with Pine... reasonable (although gone up a lot in the last year), light, easy to work with --- which means until it is spar varnished, it dings easily and it will bend nicely without much in the way of tools --- meaning rocks and cinder blocks substitute for clamps and steam!

GA -- Thanks man! Ya gotta agree with Glen on that one --- we end up with Pine --- Jason goes all fir and exotic woods --- just on the other side of the dotted line in the lake! Figure this much --- not much good bending metal... so I figure I would work at my sanding skills!!! :)

Have a great evening fellas!
