CRAP!! 1/2" is hard!!! Try using Stick Pins to hold everyting in place and use your hands to smooth it out when it starts to set up. Don't stress out about it. The filleting WILL help out alot!!!! Are you painting the Deck or Carpeting?

Yes thanks! Even the corners are a pain, since I have some curved pieces with pointed corners, no way I can wrap it around them. Can't wait to be done with this fiberglassing crap!!! Can't wait to be putting it together and wiring and interior! I like that stuff. Need to have it sea worthy by summer, kids will kill me if I don't. Next winter I'll paint the boat I think.

Just so you guys believe me that I'm actually working on my boat!

Now ready for fit the cap back on, so to hold the shape of the hull while I tab in the fillet and tab in the floor. Just have to cut the rear well out first to shorten it up due to a thicker transom.

PW,

Measure your Cap and MAKE SURE your hull and Cap measurements are the same BEFORE you tab in the hull. IF they are not use straps to pull it back in shape when you tab the hull so the cap will fit back on.;)

Nice work Will! Have you checked out Kiwi Grip for the deck? I've seen it available locally and it looks really nice when applied right..

Thanks Ryan. No I haven't, I haven't looked into anything yet for the deck. I'll check into it though. Tomorrow is the cap lifting party after work.

Got the cap back on. Bit of a pain, was a little tough getting it all lined up, I guess things have settled a bit over the past months its been apart.

Had to cut the well back a bit to allow for a thicker transom.

Thanks! I probably wont paint it this year, running out of time. Really want to have it for the summer. Was thinking dark blue and white, not sure on the scheme yet though.

What's a good amount of chopped fibers to use in PB, I picked up some, to use when I fill the gap and fillet the deck to hull sides. Before I just cut up a bit of csm and threw it in.

Ok, anybody have some good tips for me for Pouring 2 Part foam? I'm hoping to do it this week, how many holes should I drill? Do I need vent holes?

Thanks!

You need about a 2" vent hole in every blocked area where you will fill with foam. Length x width x depth will give you cubic ft. the foam should tell you the mix ration for approximate cubic ft. HINT: Use a paint mixing paddle on a drill to mix the two parts and mix in an oversized plactic bucket. This FAST HARD mixing will give you better yield for the foam. Keep a small bucket of laquer thinner close by to dip and store the mixer in for the next use. Dry it off before the next batch.

Thanks wood! Sorry I didn't see your reply till now. I picked up the foam kit, the large one, 2 20L pails of it. And boy did I take it in the Butt on the price!!!! Stuff is so expensive here. Good news though, my Dad works in the marine buisness, and the fiberglass guy from there is coming to help me do the foaming, he's done lots of it. Whoo hooo! Just have to trade him, since I'm an auto mechanic he needs some help with his truck so I'll do that for him.

Anyway another question! When I drill holes through the transom for drains and engine mounting holes, how do I seal the holes very well since they're be exposed bare wood? Should I resin coat the holes, then use some 4200?

Re: 1964 Johnson Tri-Hull restore!

I ALWAYS recommend doing this. Drill oversized holes and fill with PB. Example. If you are needing a 1/4" hole drill a 3/4" hole, mix up some "HOT" PB (use a little extra catalyst so it will set up faster) and fill the hole. (or use some 5 minute Epoxy and thicken it the same way) When it hardens, Drill the 1/4" hole. that way you NEVER have to worry about water intrustion into the transom. If you don't want to do that, then use 3M 4200 and coat the heck out of the hole and the screw/bolt when you install it.
