Sure we're watching, but there's no need to "chime in" because you guys are doing great! I'm looking forward to seeing the splash myself and those seats you got look just like the ones I got for my boat, but I went with all Navy. Deck and the transom look awesome. Now get this thing glassed and painted (or whatever you're putting in for a sole) and drop that OB on the back. Oh, and to rub it in, we didn't get any snow this year (snicker)....

LOL, thanks! We hardly got any snow, it was just way colder winter then we usually get around here.

I have started to repair that section, I got it glued in, now I just need to glass in the seam, I'll be doing that soon, I'll be sure to take some pics of it so you can see. After I figure I'll fill the seam with marine tex or something.

Got the deck all tab'd in today, one layer of CSM, then one layer of Woven. When I do the deck I'll do one layer of CSM, then the second layer of CSM, I'll wrap up the sides of the hull, then I'm calling it good.

Ok, I need to start thinking of what to apply to the deck? I see allot of people talking about gelcoating the deck? Can that be rolled on? I want something that wont wear out in one season! What kind of prep does Gel need? Primer?

Nope, if you use Gel just sand with 100 grit, Wipe with Acetone and Roll it on.
I used Good old Rustoleum Professional Oil Based Paint and sprinkled some sand to give her a little Grip, and then rolled another coat of paint over the sand. Worked great. That Rusty' paint will last for a LONG time. Very durable stuff. Looks Great and the Price is right. 25 bucks a Gallon. You might consider using it. I took pics but not very good close ups.

I guess it wouldn't be a big deal to redo if needed. Will the oil based paint seal the deck properly?

With the final layer of Galss being waxed, when I paint, do I need to clean the wax off I guess? Would just a wipe of acetone do the job? Then just paint?

Your deck is already "sealed" awesomely with the glass. You're just making it pretty. Rusto will be great for that. I would be concerned about the adhesion of anything to the wax layer so I'm thinking sanding an acetoning as you've mentioned, would be necessary.

Hey Parris - Nice work. I have question about your foam. You set up is similar to mine - 2 stringers, 3 long chambers. I was curious how many pour holes you drilled. and you mentioned vent holes. Is that to allow the air to escape as the foam fills the void?

Yes, the vent holes allows the air to escape, if its a closed corner then the foam wont expand into it, it would just compress the air and stop, I'm guessing we had at least 12 pour holes, tilt the bow up a bit so it flows back, and start your pour at the stearn and work forward.

Just got back from working on the boat again. I counted the holes, there were 20 holes, not including the vent holes.

Little more progress tonight! Did a bit more work on the splashwell repair, for those that wanted to see what I've done there here are a couple pics.

I got the lip all lined up tonight, almost perfect, had to do a bit of faring underneath with some PB so its smooth, so I can put a layer of 1708 on the repair. I'll do the 1708 underneath, then fill the seam with Marine Tex I think.

Couple other pics of the hull-deck tabing. No there is no dry spots just the way the light catches the ripples in the woven cloth. For the tabing, there is a layer of CSM, then a layer of Woven, final with be the 2nd layer of CSM on the deck will wrap up the sides.

Re: 1965 Johnson Tri-Hull restore!

Worked another 3 hours tonight on the boat, worked until midnight, that'll be two late nights in a row on the boat.

Got the strip of 1708 on under the splashwell seam, got a layer of csm on the bilge, and got half the deck glassed in. The resin isn't going as far as I thought it would, the first layer of CSM really sucks it up.

If I'm painting the deck, do I need to add wax to the final layer? I'm guessing yes, but thought I'd ask.
