It is all cleaned up and ready for the new transom.
I laminated with titebond III two 71" x 30" pieces of 3/4 ply to cut the transom out of..
Just waiting for material to show up (resin and glass ect)

So the ply I laminated has 1/8" bend in it on the vertical axis. Is this going to be a problem.. I sponged some water on the concave side flipped it over. Ran a 1x3 along the edge and weight it down the center of the horizontal axis..
Advice anybody... newbie here..

Others will be along shortly to confirm or deny, but I really don't see where an 1/8" will be detrimental......IMHO

Thank for the reply.
When I cut the transom to I make it a very close fit (1/8") or do I give a little space along the edges to work in some PB?
Also I was told to cut the transom 1/8" short on the top so that it can be capped of with glass..Good idea or bad?

I'd leave 1/4" all around for PB.

Transom ply cut out and fitted..
1/2" radius around the corners. Bottom angle cut 11?. 1/4" gap all around..
Glue and clamp it in. Since I have 1 1/2" angle iron I may make the clamps with it instead of wood..
I will build up the corners level with the transom skin with csm and hairy PB (had to ding into the corners since it was so loaded with just resin).
My plan is.
1. Add csm/pb to the interior corners to level it with the hull..
2. Cover the ply transom with 1.5oz csm both sides. let set up/cure.
3. Add 1.5oz csm to the interior transom skin and extend about 3" into the hull.. trim it to the top transom before it cures.
4. Apply copious amounts of PB (Hairy? not so Hairy? I dano) to the transom with a 1/4" v trowel.
5. Get it clamped in as quickly possible..
6. Pack in the space between the the edge of the transom with pb and make a fillet to transition to the hull.
7. Tab it in.

Does that sound right?

Got the transom covered on both sides with 1.5csm. Got the hull ready to accept it. (reinforced the corners with csm and hairy PB).
My question is how much PB to mix to glue it in with. What consistency of PB, thick, creamy, chopped strand or not? Should I use a 1/4" notched trowel?
I just have to ruff & scuff the hull and set it in. I made my WOG clamps and ready to go.
All help is appreciated.

I'd recommend having 3 - 1 qt containers of resin (1,000 cc) , 3 - 10 cc containers of MEKP, 3 - 2qt containiers of Cabosil and 3 - 1/4 cups of Chopped milled fibers, on the table ready to go. Mix one quart and start spreading. I'd use a 1/2" notched trowel. Put it on the wood and the skin of the transom. Have a friend ready to mix the next quart when you are just about done with the first etc... You'll prolly use about 3. Any left over can be used to fillet around the edges. Do a dry run with the clamps first so you know how to use em.

I got the transom in!!..
2.5qt of PB. The recipe that WOG posted here worked fantastic for PB. I buttered up both sides with a 3/8" v notched trowel and clamped it in..
1/2qt left over of pb I crammed into the space on the sides. It took another 1qt of PB to fill the rest of the 1/8~1/4" gap/fillet around the transom.
I started with a 8" wide 1.5csm tab (4" on transom and 4" into hull")
Next up is the 1708.. But I have a question.
I want to use a full piece across the transom and extend it 7" into the hull.. Do I cut a triangle piece out of the 1708 at the two corners of the transom so it does not gather up (like the ends of gift wrap on a box). Other wise I cannot see it laying down in the corners when it makes that 90? from the transom to the hull..

Outside of the transom is beat up to say the least. Needs a bit of fairing to get it straight (about 1/16" of waviness to it)

Just cut a slit @ a 45? angle for the corners. I'd sand the outer skin with 40 grit, wipe it down with acetone and then mix up a quart of resin, a 1/2 cup of cabosil and the rest glass bubbles (use only 1% MEKP) to get mayonaise/ketchup consistency and use a 12" plastic knife to spread it smooth. It'll fill and sand like a dream.

Ok little update. I believe my transom is in. First was a 8" wide SCM (4" in hull 4" on transom), Then a full piece of 1708 that extended 7" into the hull (3" past the csm). Then another full piece of 1708 10" extended into the hull.. That 1708 is a bit tougher to wet out then csm..

Some questions / clarification on stringers.
1. When the stringer is cut to shape radius the top so the 1708 will go over it, how big of a radius?
2. Give the stringer a coat of resin before it is bedded in?
3. suspend the stringer 1/8" (min) off the floor when bedding in?
4. 1st layer of csm extend 4" on hull then 1708 6" and final 1708 8" into hull?
5. Is one layer of 1708 over the top of the stringer sufficient. (I ask because the stringers are attached to the deck creating one hell of a I beam)
6. (Almost forgot) Approx amout of PB for a 12'x1.5" stringer to bed in?

Mariner was new in 56. I think it was "Pacific Mariner" back then.

To illustrate the toughness of the F/Glass boats they dragged one around the Running track in Seattle's sports stadium and up over a Ski Jump and it landed with a good loud thump. They did this repeatedly with the same boat over a few days time.
I watched it a couple times.
It never hurt the boat structurally although the bottom got scratched up a good bit.

More questions.. When using the 1708 on the stringers do I do one continuous piece? The center/keel stringer is 12' long. I have 9yd (50"wide) left of 1708 after doing the transom.
The csm is going down in 50" pieces first (I have to use it for the decking also). Do I butt them together or over lap?

I got the center/keel stringer bedded in with a nice 3/4~1" fillet to transition to the hull.. Took 3qt (about 2.5qt resin) of PB. I will be laying in a 8" wide CSM 4" on stringer and 4" into hull..with 2" overlap.

On top of the stringer I used a router to cut a 3/8" radius. I decided to do the 1708 in 50" lengths instead of trying to lay up 12+feet in one go..
How difficult will it be to get the 1708 to go over the top of the stringer with a 3/8" radius on top.. ??
