well just seen your thread. your doing a great job i love looking at the restores. I think I'm going to look for me one to do lol keep up the great work!!!! :D

Hey texasbil, glad you appreciate the Starcrafts, Azlo here is in the middle of a top-notch restore:)

Since you've got that 5.9L Cummins diesel tow vehicle I assume you will be looking for a 26' aluminum cabin cruiser:D

Starcraft made some huge hulls that are still around here and there.

Drooooooolllll....

Hey Az, how about buying two, chop the bow off one and the stern off the other, weld the long bits together and making a 36 footer? Oh wait, didn't someone think of that before? LOL! :D

No I didnt, I figured I wouldnt have to since I was rebuilding it. Next step, im gonna semd the block & head to get checked.

OK. Good Deal. Glad to hear you are sending the block and head to be checked. I was just hoping you were not going to put it back together assuming it was head gasket or something simple only to find a cracked block or head after reassembly. Once again, Lookin good.

As a matter of fact I havent decided wether to go as far as blueprinting it. That would be nice but would need to get some tools for that and would be time consuming.

So i had to buy a new tool.:p I needed to remove the harmonic balancer to remove the timing cover.

When I removed the timing cover and oil pan, I found more of the nastyness.

There are a lot of ways for water to get in to the oil. Not all of them are catastrophic failure. Hopefully your water is from either rain or condensation from not getting the motor to temp. The later happens all the time in jet boats. Hopefully yours issue is a one of the before mentioned or a gasket issue. The machine shop will tell you soon enough. Keep up the good work.

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

Did some more and final teardown of my engine. Got some double jaw pulley removers, but unfortunately they didnt work. SO i went ahead and used the the grinder to just cut the pulley.

Went ahead and stamped the mains & rod caps.

Wew, some trash got in there.

MAH007663.jpg

Took the crank out and now im worried about this nic, Hopefully we can grind it off.

MAH007671.jpg

All removed finally, have the rest soaking in the parts cleaner time to send out the block & head out for checking.

For all of you that need an oil filter here is the Part no# for the 140 fram.

Thought that would help some.

Take that crank to the machine shop too. They can turn it for you and get bearing to match.

Front main journal on the crank looks pretty messed up, not only due to the nic, do the rest of the journals have those grooves as well? Regrind may be enough to make it serviceable again, depends on the depth of the all the nastiness.

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

I purchased a 1968 18 Holiday V - OB that was used in salt water. Planning on making it a very fast boat with 25" transom, 140 HP Suzuki, nidacore floors and panels. I'm also a glastron fan so I'm thinking about going with a gold metal flake paint job for the top. Have pictures on demolition and will post on a thread when I figure out how to do it. It might take a while. I have have been following your project for months now and it has inspired me.

HEy Azlo,

Clearly you are one your way to the top of the preseason mock draft for 2011 Splash of the Year...

I have a 68 Holiday too - did you ever contemplate putting in a newer motor - I found a 140 from a crap glasser and bought it for $375 and dropped in right in - had to get the alternator and starter reworked - but I essentially got a much newer motor for way less than a total rebuild on a old 120....

Looks great!!!!
