U mean there switches that can handle that much amps? This will feed power to everything except the starter. The solenoid handles 100amps and will power the fusebox.

They are called "smart solenoids"......lots of 4wder's use em......some can handle 200amps continuous, 100amps continuous seems to be more common.....a little pricey for a good one though.

Ok, the master aux. switch will be on my dash along with the other switches. My thought is that in case of an emergency I can just turn the switch off & that will shut power off to the fuse box. Follow me? Now I will have a VSR (voltage sensitive relay) for the charging system but regardless if I shut the master aux. switch or not the house batt always gets charged. See if my drawing helps.

That seems overly complicated. If you want a battery disconnect for the fuse panel just get a manual one. If you don't want it visible on your dash put the bracket on the back side of the dash with the handle pointed down. Easy to get to and out of sight. I have even seen them at HF.

Here is one from Jegs. Waterproof 100 amp continuous.

What do you Plan on running that you have to worry about drawing anywhere near 100 amps ? I mean, radio, fish finder, odds ends, etc ?

Also whats the resistor for. Just fyi, resistors themselves create a ton of heat which get blistering hot. If you have to use one, make sure you have something very large and metal to attach it to to use as a heat sink. Guys using resistors on jeeps for led lighting buy heat sink paste (typically used in computer applications) to add between the resistor and the metal base/heat sink to create a solid heat transfer. Resistors are parasitic as well.

Lastly how will u transition from the hot on the aux bat to both a lead to the switch and lead to 100 amp solenoid, ( mini bus bar ) ?

Really? All ill be adding is a switch and a solenoid to the circuit. The diagram on the right what boaters usually have.

I like the thought of having a switch on my dash. Its gonna look the same like the others. I did thought about a switch under the dash but but have u seen how fat I am I dont think I could lean under the dash all the time.

Whats up Chris. OK, what I was trying to say is that I bought 2 power cuts offs. One a solenoid and the other a relay. The one that needs resistor is the relay.

100a-high-power-latching-relay-ne720-697.jpg

The diffrence of this 2 is that the relay only needs a temporary signal from switch to the relay. It has permanent magnets inside to keep the leads engaged after u sent power to the relay to engage. So for this type of relay you would need a temporary, double throw switch. In other words this relay will not get hot like the solenoid would because it uses magnets to keep lead contact vs a solenoid uses constant power to create an electrical magnetic field to engage the leads. Also therefore the resistor would not get hot because the signal would be half a second or what time it takes to push a toggle switch. The resistor was recomended by manufacturer. Im not gonna install this really yet, gonna see how this solenoid last.

I'm not saying it is a complicated circuit. I just think that solonoid is another point of failure that is not needed especially if it gets that hot. With the switch placement I was thinking you would not have to get under the dash to get to it. Just reach right at the bottom of the dash and flip it. There is a reason most race series require an external manual battery disconnect and not a switch wired to a solonoid. KISS.

If you are trying to ad some style to it, your idea is good, If you truly just want a disconnect in case something shorts in the electrical, a manual disconnect is much more reliable. You have one part (Switch) and two terminals. Not four parts (Switch, solenoid, and two feed wires to the switch) and six terminals.

Well I did a lot today almost done with electrical. But as always in this journey im in the hunt of making thing easier. So,,i went and got a hydraulic crimper. Bought me some 2awg & 4awg lugs as well.

MAH009946.jpg

Read some reviews on this and it seems very decent. Crimped on some lugs on my battery cables. They look really good.

It has bits for 12awg to 00awg. Nice eh. Ok so this about the only intresting thing I could take pics of. I tell yah , electrical is not the most entertaining thing but its sure is a mind buster. I finally got the engine to start of the switches.

You do know that you can now make custom cables for the rest of the forum. That's how businesses happen :)

Well I have to ask Azlo, where did ya get that crimper? I have been kind of looking for one as well and have found one at HF but not sure on the quality of it.

You are doing one heck of a job my friend, keep it up and the end will be here before you know it.

Thanks. This crimper is from HF but other stores sellthem. The reviews are great no bad news as far as I know. Of course u will hear that delivery was bad , etc but that has nothing to do with the tool. Anyways they are 49.99 but I got it on memorial day and it was 25% off on everything all u need is a coupon,. So it cost me 37$ with tax & everything. Not bad.

Ok, I thought that looked like the one from HF but was not sure. I did read the reviews on the crimper but was still a little leary on getting it. No I don't really trust the reviews, I want to talk to someone who has actually used something like that before I go and get one. Thanks for letting me know Azlo.

Well I went to turn my engine to test my switches and wouldnt u know it. My elect. fuel pump went out! that sucks. SO I went ahead and removed the hoses and then realised I had cracked brass bolt that goes to the fuel seperator housing. Defenitely not my day. SO I packed it up and went to sleep. Will hunt for new delivery system.

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

SO I was able to get a resistor and install ot the latching relay. I tried and it works like a charm. Dont need constant voltage to the relay just a signal and thats it. Im gonna do is install both relays & use one. Just in case one fails I have the other ready. Will post pics on installing it.

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

Ok im not doing to good with the relay so lets just put that aside. I had my fuel pump arrive so I Installed it.

MAH010002.jpg

MAH010003.jpg

Cost 38$ the old pump was 42$ so we will see how long this one lasts. One thing for sure I will carry an extra.

MAH010011.jpg

So Im very close to finish electrical all I need is to hook up the fuse box & power the switches. So as soon I get that done I will be able to get this tangle mess buttoned up.

MAH010004.jpg

Will be using some of this to get everything organised. ITs getting close.
