Re: So I'm aboard the Starcraft remodel board with a 18 footer

Thanks Jas,, I did double click and I see how it allows me to delete/edit the thread title but still connects to the page and I can't edit thread title fast enough before it goes to the thread.

The reason why I suggested exterior door was because its free..

I'm scoring all kinds of goodies for free.. from paint to bearings to 4 remnants of diamond plate for 20 bucks. 2X4's for the trailer bunks. I was offered 3/4 inch OSB for free but thats just not an option... Oh and all those stainless steel screws? FREE.....

Hopefully paint next week. Question is about gluvit, While washing out boat I didn't see any leaks, even small rivet leaks do not concern me.

What I'm trying to say is I'm looking for a reason not to use Gluvit, I'm open minded about it, how necessary is it?

I found Coat it on ebay for 45ish, is there another brand or site I can get the laminating epoxy? Reading through the other rebuilds is challenging, 10,0000000000 posts and replies on top of not being a proffecient reader is taking super long.

Re: So I'm aboard the Starcraft remodel board with a 18 footer

just don't total up the cost in stainless hardware, it'll make you wince

Jas is 100% right on the plywood. no, the sanded part doesn't matter; the reason many of us buy the Chilean sanded panels is that they are the closest locally available thing to marine ply (less voids than exterior and glue seems more waterproof)

there's a cheap and easy solution to your bimini: your old one is in great shape to use as a pattern. buy some Sunbrella off fleebay or from Defender and sew one up.

Thanks for your help, and it does help.

That plywood isn't available here at Home Depot in Bakersfield. The rough 3/4 in ply is on sale for 25 bucks this weekend. I'm thinking I need 5 sheets for transom and deck.

I am going to keep the casting deck however not the U-shape. Outta function if I'm up there pitching or casting and I take a step back into that U???? Broken butt time! Besides if you look in that U and the only access is that 12 inch port window and thats just not sufficient for the storage I plan on using up front.. Anchors, rope, life vests, toolbox, etc.. Trick is now to figure out how to support that casting deck and adding a hinged lid to that space

I did check ebay for sunbrella and is the way to go, eventually I will go that route. Eventually...

Ok typed for 20 mins and post didn't go through...

So short and sweet here now

Did trailer work, cutting off PO add ons... rewelded fender on. Customized a lot of parts on the trailer which I went into detail in the original post. Not going to retype again.

I did cut off the horse shoe casting deck and anyone who wants it contact me. Although one guys is interested. I am not looking forward to shipping it though so keep it in mind if its going to be a hassle for me.

Dad cutting off the excessive bolt lengths and adjustable bunk supports that were too long. We welded them in place to the trailer

I did a lot of customizing on the trailer, maybe later I will retype the details

I'm shooting for painting this weekend

Oh man, I'm really liking that super cool bow casting deck up there ^^^ U shape is so unique, I hope you keep it:)

Exterior door? Nah. Two 3/4" pieces of exterior grade plywood, glued, all sealed up would be cheaper and easier to build.

Oh, hey, you can go to your thread title (on the Starcraft forum page), double click it and change it to whatever you want;)

(Hey, I added your project to the Rebuild thread cool:cool:)

Jas, can you change the title for me? I can't do it, it just links to the thread when I double click

Say? 1968 Star Trek-V custom rebuild

Howdy, cutbait. Nice find and since she's a Star Trek and the only one here you will go where no man has gone before. :p She should work well with your mods. And you knocked most the trailer out of the way - Nothing worse than have a spiffy tinny on a ratty trailer.

I think (???) to change the thread title, go to the first post, click edit and then click Go Advanced and change the title to whatever you want and save changes. There have been some recent changes in the forum and that is one of them. If it doesn't work PM a Mod.

Keep up the good work and have fun re-building the Star Trek with the boys.

Yah, sorry I can't help ya. It seems that the ability to edit that I described before no longer exists, sorry man.

Trailer work is kind of a drag but it's gotta be done, good progress:)

A hole in a hull ,however small will get bigger overtime. Glovet is inexpensive (only mix what you will use) it goes on easy and takes very little to do below the waterline . Coat all rivits and you will have it free of leaks for years. One of the best things you can buy on a rebuild for the results you will get.

Re: So I'm aboard the Starcraft remodel board with a 18 footer

Gluv it is going on.

My question is???????????????

Transom and Deck floor coating..... Coat it by goop or Us composites 635? I've seen the debates of poly vs. epoxy, I'm sold on epoxy..

used poly and its a pain in the butt

Just what brand? Will 1.25 gallons of Coat it be suffice for a deck and transom? I can get it for 43 bucks, 635 is 115ish

Regarding 3m 5200.... I've used marinetex and intended to use it with rivets to plug some holes and fastening deck... Also to plug up old transducer holes in the transom skin...

How does 5200 compare with marinetex?

to be specific, my plans are gluv it for 45 bucks, then coat it epoxy for another 45 bucks on the deck and transom, Marinetex for rivet sealing and transom skin hole repair for another 20 bucks,, going to put marine vinyl on floor and was thinking about six10 to marry the gunnels and vinyl floor... another 40 bucks

Thoughts from the experienced?

I've use Marine tex before and loved it

It renamed the first post, but the following posts have the old title. I tried here to rename again, we'll see what happens.
Wish I could help but my experience is only with 3M 5200, messy but works well.

Nothing can be done about that. The main thread title is correct and that's all that really matters anyway.

For your deck and transom wood, I'd go with U.S. Composites epoxy, Clark Craft, or something like that. How much you used varies wildly based on application method and how thirsty the wood is. I used 3 gallons on my deck and prolly another half on the transom. I used cheap 3" chip brushes from Harbor Freight to apply mine.

So We've been working daily on the trailer.. painted base coat of white friday. Woke up at 430 this morning to mask and paint before the heat. 100 degree days here lately.

Painted the back like a Kelly green.. I pin stripped the back and added a diagonal line like one of the other restorers on the forum. I forgive me for forgetting the name. I kinda copied hist pattern from his boat to the trailer and will continue to the boat as well.

Pics will not do the paint job justice until tomorrow when I pull the masking off

Here's the boat on the ground,,, look at my retractable gangway Im constructing to shoot barrels into Great White sharks...

"Not with three barrels he can't"

Seriously I was sizing that rail to see if I can complete the missing span I have.

Spent about 75 bucks on plywood, 2X4, bunk carpet, lag screws at home depot.

Another 8 bucks at harbor freight on rivots

17 on ebay for marine tex.

Another 48 on ebay for coat it

And finally 8.50 more on two vinyl starcraft decals for the vessel.

Colors aren't my first choice but price was right.

;-)

Vacation coming in July so I swore to myself Im not going to be buying too much until after vacation.

Ok ripped the masking tape off.. pleased with the results although there are imperfections.

Gonna put bunk boards, diamond plate and new winch strap today... trailer sneak peak
