Started transferring the all the goodies from the donor boat and gave the donor boat to a farmer buddy for use in his pond..

Your gonna get a sneak preview on my side panels... not done yet so expect more..

Nephew gave me some chrome rims, which I'm gonna throw 50 bucks his way next time I see him.

My boys, dad, and I are really looking forward to this now..

Trailer is going on craiglist.. How much do ya think?

I figure a trailer will sell a lot faster than a ugly stripped boat on a trailer

I had the console nice and sturdy with a plywood compartment just forward of it and the steering cable was 1 ft short..

Pssshh... well I moved it... wasn't happy

Seats are just sitting in there, I also decided to put it in the garage since it has 5,000 dollars sitting on it now

Really coming together CB. Looks like a well put together package that will last for decades! My cable on my Jupiter was 4" short... so I feel your pain man!! Just not much you can do... live with it or buy a new one and use the old cable as an excuse to get another boat to fix up!

Not much left now to do!

PS - like the rims on the trailer as well.... $50 bucks??? Man you better take your nephew fishing lots!!:)

When you make an omelet you gotta break some eggs. Hopefully when it's all done you look at it and say "no biggie". These things have a way of working out in the end.

It's coming along nicely Cutbait. I think people could mistake it for a new boat.

I'm thinking about a rebuild. You've inspired me.

Re: 1968 Star Trek-V 18 ft'er... "Going where no man has gone before" custom rebuild

You can see my fabricated side panels for securing the nautolex mechanically. I used 1X12 composite lumber and ripped it in half and used carpet to vinyl transition aluminum for strength and something to attach to the deck.

You can also see around the console area where I salvaged the console from a fiberglass boat that was abandoned that I trimed out with diamond plate and aluminum angle. {I'm not exactly happy with}.. Just looks a bit clumbsy. I tried to use some scrap diamond plate from the shop and not sure if it is long for the boat.

Was going to install the Marine CD player from the donor boat and had troubles with it in the donor but it worked, well I cut out the notch in the console and sure enough it burned up on me.. Great! shoulda burnt before I CUT THE HOLE!!!!!.. ugh so now I have to buy one.
Kinda sad I couldn't utlilize the glove box from the old boat but there just isn't anywhere for it.

Ok, could use some help here on an issue.

I connected the throttle linkage and shift linkage. Throttle works fine, shift works great in forward, but binds right after engaging into reverse. I disconnected the shift and then it slides free forward and reverse. I adjusted the drum and still not right. Is there a method to setting it?

I tried putting the lower unit into nuetral, putting the shift lever in nuetral and then adjusting the drum to match the position of the pin that recieves the shift arm. Still in a bind. Seems kinda tough when I was manually shifting the lower unit.

Also, I wired in the gauges and powered them, had the lights working with the ignition switch fine. This was 3 weeks ago, Since then I wired the bilge, nav lights, yadda yadda and in the process of the jungle of wires I forgot how I had the gauges working with the ignition.

Gotta take the time and trouble shoot.. just so much left to do thats not mentally labor intensive so I am avoiding those issues

Still have to install the thru hull for the bilge, the two issues I mentioned, purchase a fuel tank and install, purchase another seat base and install, purchase a casting deck base and install, Install my led's under the gunwhale cap, repair a minor hole in the transom I made with an errant pilot hole for the motor bolts {dont ask, brain fart}, purchase a transom saver, retractable transom tie downs, purchase and install a cd player, install the fire extinguisher, Touch up some of the paint that "someone" scratched up because they treated the gunwhale cap as a work bench, etc, etc..

Looks like I have all the hard work done, just need to tie up all the loose ends..

She looks real good, Cut. On the reverse problem - if the motor isn't running shifting into reverse can be hard, Two things to try, first have your helper turn the prop while you shift into reverse to line up the shift dogs. Second, if the motor is running hook up the muffs and try shifting, again to get the dogs lined up. If those steps work you might not have a problem.

Here is an online file I found that covers installation. Check out the "Shift and Throttle Cable Installation to the Outboard" section. Hope it helps.

What if you paint it to match, or fab a new smooth panel (back side) and paint it. Trim the edge with Alum and tie it all together.

Tracking electrical is always fun:frusty::frusty::frusty:

Re: 1968 Star Trek-V 18 ft'er... "Going where no man has gone before" custom rebuild

Thanks for the kind words fella's!

GA, you've relieved me a bit. I am going to tackle the shifting later.

64, guess what? I turned the key the next day and the lights on the gauges worked!....

Problem was I had my dad turn the key and look for the light to come on while I was head deep under the console and him being 68 and poor vision they were actually working the whole time,,,,,, No electrical issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've noticed one thing on this project. My dad taught me most of what I know about tools and how to use them and overall just being handy.. Ya know?...

Well it seems tables have turned, I found myself more often than not taking things from my dad to get a job done. From shaking trying to solder two wires, to just finding a screw head to tighten down. Its showing me the difference of what I remember my dad being when I was a kid to now and what age does to us...

Thanks all for looking, got a cool PM from a member and made me feel good about the route I am taking with this rig

cb, awesome news on the electrical.

The torch has been passed, but your 1st mate can still teach you a few tricks I'm sure.

You have your memories from being a kid and now your making new ones that both of you will cherish for years to come.

Can't wait to see the first splash with you and your Dad beaming with pride.

Re: 1968 Star Trek-V 18 ft'er... "Going where no man has gone before" custom rebuild

Its down to the nitty gritty right now.

Decals, which are ordered
Transom saver and tie downs
Finally resolve the shifting in reverse issue. {procrastinating on that one}

And she is ready for the water! Probably still a month away though as Christmas costs yadda yadda...

That seat on the casting deck will be replaced with a Butt seat post and that seat will be placed just forward of that passenger seat you see
