Re: 1971 16' ss

Well...we had to do some makeshift things to make the splash happen. (the controls and fuse box being attached to wood being a few)

We were up for 18 hrs working on the boat, and barely managed to squeak in under 2 hrs of sleep before heading out.

Got out today for it's maiden voyage though and everything went well. We were able to boat 7 small Sturgeon as well, which was fun for my Father In Law that has never caught one before. (unfortunately they were all under 36-40")

The seats were not in the boat yet, so we sat on foldable camping chairs (which was quite humerous when someone would fall over)

We were able to pull off 31.2 mph on the GPS with the F50, with 3 people (roughly 600 lbs of people) in the boat. I think that's a very acceptable speed given the amount of weight that was in the boat.

I can't wait to see this finished. Looking forward to it as much as my own. Awesome work!

We're getting closer to completion every day.

Rear panels and everything are being test fit, and will be secured in the morning.

We decided on the Beede Multifunction gauge Speedo and the Yamaha Digital Multifunction gauge for the Tach. We haven't ordered the Yami yet, since we are short on scratch from everything else.

As a surprise, Ken had a jumping bass etched in the sideglass and painted translucent blue. I think it looks awesome.

Holy cow that blue bass looks great on the side window:D

I agree that 31mph is not bad performance. Another iboater had an older 50hp 2-stroke and was only getting 26mph in similar circumstances with a 16' Jupiter.

I like that multi-function gauge too, nice choice.:)

Jury is out currently on that gauge as the fuel portion isn't working.

Gas tank wound up being pretty close to our calculations...11.8 gallons when full. The rear slide doors are all set permanently, and bow is all ready to be wrapped up. (ran out of rivets)

Had a second splash today, and fishing tomorrow. There is still quite a bit of work to do, but it'll get done over the next week after the play weekend is over.=)

Re: 1971 16' ss

Finished up both trips. Both were relatively uneventful for issues.

The fishing on Saturday wasn't too bad. Managed to get 7 fish in 3 hrs, up to 52".

Re: 1971 16' ss

Glad to hear things went well for ya!

Is that a Sturgeon? Nice looking fish.:)

What kind of speeds did you get with less people on board?

Re: 1971 16' ss

Still haven't had a chance to take it out by myself to see, although it still managed 30 mph with 3 adults/2 kids/full tank of gas. (figure that's about 800 lbs) I'm thinking I would need a little more prop to gain much speed. (I do have another one to test out, but won't do it until I have a tach)

You are correct, the fish is a White Sturgeon.

Man your boat looks sweet Veil, you have done a very good job on her bud.

So where did ya catch that sturgeon at there bud? Kind of looks like down by Longview.

When I first moved here I did a lot of sturgeon fishing on the public dock here in St. Helens and caught my biggest there at 57 inches. But I have seen an 8 footer come in there.

It's actually the Willy close to the MC (you know that secret hole...where the whole State fishes...lol)

I haven't fished that low in the Columbia, but my biggest gators are around 11-12 ft.

Actually the third splash, and both (only 2 were fishing trips) of which have had fish in the boat.
