Hey mrdjflores,
Sorry you haven't finished your boat yet but glad to see your still on here. I haven't done anything on mine for about a year but hope to fix that very soon.
Your boat is looking great and I would go with the black on the window frames.
Take care
Bob

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

thanks Oops and Bob,
Yeah, i decided to go with black on the window frames...gonna media blast the frames, then spray them with some etching primer and paint. I have a few panels of smoked plexi to cut the new sliding panels out of. also gonna have to remake one of my seats...my kids were cleaning up and rearranging the basement and they ended up ripping one of the seat cushions...the list never ends, but at least i'm making SOME progress, even if it's slower than i had planned....

on a side note, my kid's fishing photo came in 2nd place on the "i love boating" page on facebook, sponsored by iBoats!!!! have a nice Abu Garcis hoodie sweatshirt coming my way...

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

Just read your thread on sewing seats and had to look at this thread on the boat. Read the whole thing in one session.

You have done some really nice work, I am really impressed! I will be watching for updates for sure.

These boats can take some time, but it will be worth it in the long run.

On your console - did you glass over the ply or just paint? I have plans to build my own console, but it will be a long tme before I am ready for that. I just keep plugging away at it. Just like you have, I find there are times when all I can do is the manual labor intensive items on my list. Saving a few bucks here and there to be able to get my supplies.

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

not much to report lately, many other projects in the way...
i did however make an awesome score on a pair of the barr-marine center rise exhaust manifolds...in great condition (don't look like they've ever been used)...for $25 for the pair.

been wanting to go to thru-hull exhuast, so i've had my log style manifolds and exhaust Y-Pipe sitting on the shelf...guess i'll throw those on CL or ebay soon...

as soon as i finished rebuilding the 302 for my son's truck, i should be ready to start back on the boat

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

not much progress on the boat. but i did get my hands on a nice roller 351w...i'm going to switch the heads over to a mid 70's 351w head that has a smaller combustion chamber and larger valves, also switch the pistons over to early 90's mustang ho pistons...there was a year or so that the stangs came stock with TRW pistons...just have to remember to order the metric size piston rings.

we are still in the middle of the remodel of our basement, so i haven't been able to dedicate much time the the big yellow beast. I did manage to uncover her and start cleaning her out, but i did notice some mold growth on the headliner vinyl on the hardtop...guess i'll be replacing that too

Well, i did get a chance to start some spring cleaning on the boat...only to find out some critters decided to make a home out of here and had been chewing up on alot of my new wood...so...now it's time to completely gut her this time....uggghhh....
I'm glad i like to build things....

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

i wish...but luckily, there isn't alot of wood in her belly...these originally didn't have wood decks, they were molded fiberglass decks, directly ontop of the foam...
but now since there are some "new" holes in the deck and down in the cuddy area, along with some loose foam scattered throughout...gonna replace it all...

lol....haven't informed the wife yet

I hope those critters that spend winter in your boat did not left a lot of mess like the one that nested in my boat this past winter, I can't wait to catch this mask face critter and relocate him in the south pole and wish he get chewed by the polar bears.

pulled the boat back up to the house the other day, time to give her a good scrub down and general cleaning. now to figure out where i left off.

she has been invaded by a billion little black bugs, about the size of fleas....

scrub, scrub , scrub

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

got most of the wiring and accessories out of the transom area...transom is shot...alot of the wood in the boat is shot...doesn't seem like rot from water...more like dry rotted and delaminating.

the light plywood pieces were temporary supports for the ski platform
the white floors are also just temporaries, for while i've been climbing around the boat and working on the interior layout that i've been planning
