Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

well, with my back out, didn't do a thing on the boat yesterday. last time my back went out like this, i was in the sanding phase on the hull, so i could at least lay on my back and sand....but now, i can't even climb up the ladder to get in the boat.

need to get over this back dilemma pretty quick, i'm in full boat mode right now and dont wanna stop

yeah...this sucks!!!
my neighbor helped me a bit today, and i think we have deteremined that i can get the transom in there as one piece.
so just 2 layers of 3/4" ply, instead of 3 layers of 1/2"

mrdjflores,
I'd recommend lamming your transom using Titebond III. I will NEVER delam. The glue has some of the Highest ratings in the industry for Waterproofing, strength, etc... Then coat it all with resin and then a layer of CSM. Drill some 1" holes in the entire assembly and then PB it to the outer skin. The 1" holes allow the PB to squeeze thru and give you a mechanical bond as well as a chemical bond with the PB. Fillet it, then apply two full layers of 1708 and finish it off with a final layer of CSM. It will be there 50 years from now with proper maintenance and care. The first link in my signature has drawings and details. Just my 2?. Take care of your back!!! The boat will be there when you heal.;)

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

if using 2 full layers of 3/4 ply...here was my thinking..originally..
1) coat each layer with resin
2) laminate the 2 layers together with CSM in between them
3) bond the laminated transom to the inside of the hull with PB, using notched trowel
4) 2-3 layers of CSM on the inside (side you can see from inside the boat) of the wood transom
5) full length tabbing of the wood transom to the rest of the hull in between each of the final 2-3 layers of CSM from step 4.

am i way off base here??? i like the idea of TiteBond III between the 2 layers of the ply, instead of a layer of CSM...will the rest of my idea be okay???
was hoping to do all this this weekend, but again, i didn't order any 1708...just the 1-1/2oz CSM

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

well...back is feeling better...enough to take SWMBO out for a date, and then a midnight romp in the pool....
tomorrow, weather permitting, do some cleanup from the demo going on in the boat and make a template for the transom (crossing fingers that i can do the transom in one piece)

Yep the one for rolling out the glass is what I call a Bubble Roller. I use the 6" rollers from HD for rolling the resin after I scrape em down with a hack saw blade to De-Fuzz em.;)

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

I just did some catching up on your thread and wanted to comment about your rear seat(U-shaped seat) vs a sundeck with a straight seat. My opinion: Go with the U-seat, but make it so that you have an extra pad that you can use to fill in the "U" and then you have a large bed back there if you fill in the U. Kind of like if you have a table in the middle of the U that sites real low with a pad on it. Don't know if that made any sense or not. But, great work on the boat.

Do you think the boat will weigh more or less when you are all done?

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

yeah, i've been thinking of the idea of a center padded section that would turn it into a huge bed.....dirty thoughts, dirty thoughts.....but i have to come up with someplace to store it when not in use.
As far as weight goes, i don't think i'll be much heavier...about the only extra weight i'll be adding is a second full width 3/4 plywood layer for the transom, and some extra support for the seats...plus the weight difference between a ford 302 and 351w
