That is ridiculous! Do they realize it is a four cylinder? I would still do it. It will be money well spent.

I had to do mine in steps too. First the block. Then the pistons and wrist pin bushings. Then took the roatating componets in for balance. Then saved some more for the head. This will most likely be the most exspensive of your entire resto. Besides. As beautiful as the sound is. It's not a place to be stranded. Keep your head up. There definantly is light at the end of the tunnel. :)

I thought about it and the sound is not for me! i will stay in the lakes, and eventually get a boat for the sound... but the lakes will do me just fine

Ignition Coil in the top right corner, oil filter next to it, Belt, Impeller kit ( i plan to buy a second one for my emergency kit that i will always keep on the boat), and spark plugs (which i will also have a extra set in the emergency kit).

Waiting to be delivered are the temp sender, and the oil sender.

Hey brenn,
No the block should be back to me sometime next week. friday at the latest. Which would be great because that would give me the weekend to assemble the bottom end.
By the way PM me if u need a really good machine shop guy. Hes in everett.

Few updates.
Got a few more things such as the temp sensor, and pressure sensor.

I ordered another little toy for myself ( i cant help me) the HotCoat system by eastwood. So i can powdercoat my timing cover, my valve cover, alternator brackets, timing pulley and anything else i wanted to powder coat :)
cant wait.

will have more updates and pictures when block gets back from machine shop.

Its a project, its a 16ft ss model I think by the looks of the pics I saw and from what a couple others in the starcraft section have mentioned.I have a small pic in this thread of it.......http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=557529.Its an O/B so I will start saving up and hunting for a motor for it because Im pretty sure that one thats hanging off the back of it now is going to be toast.

Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore

Great News! everyone who has actually been following my thread... i know i know.. you like the fiberglass stuff more than the engine rebuilding stuff. but as someone in my thread pointed out. a boat without an engine is a floating island! so anyhow
Machine shop guy called a few hours ago and said engine is good to go!
I am going to go pick it up tommarow. And probably start the bottom end assembly... I may wait though...

You see i got a few extra toys a few days ago.

Number 1. I finally got my compressor that i purchased about 6 months ago HOOKED UP!!
I also bought a Harbor Freight Blast Cabinet.. I heard that the gun that comes with it sucks so i ordered one that was Made in USA that is recommended... I also just put silicone calking inside of the cabinet to further seal it!

Anyhow.
I will receive the Engine tommarow and first things first I will blast the necessary Items. Oil Pan Cover, timing cover, valve cover, and pulley...

Also tommarow i am scheduled according to fedex to recieve my Eastwood hotcoat system! so i will be able to powder coat the Pulley and timing cover... if i find an oven i can use big enough i will do the valve cover too..
But the oil pan i will just do rattle can.

So yeah. Hopefully i will get everything organized in the garage tommarow. And since i have the weekend off i will hopefully attempt to put together the bottom end this weekend.

I apologize for the time i put the camera phone down... quick update of whats going on... engine is back from machine shop. this is the part where it starts to go really fast! now that the parts are all here... well most of them. i will be working on getting the fiberglass grinding underway once the outdrive reseal is complete after this engine rebuild!
