Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain

I'm gonna need to spend more time in the dry docks! I'm falling behind on whats happening.

Between baby, boats, engine, outboards, work, keeping up the house....and that one night a week Jim B and I get to hang out, i'm fallin behind.

3 props
4 Skegs
Two upper cowl
One lower
Damaged paint and pride....

Three of the OB's came from Pensy and two from western Ohio.......

ouch. sorry to see that one. when you reinstall the 2x6, you could put a shim under the skeg of each motor so the floor is carrying the weight of the motor and all the wall is doing is keeping it upright.

I chalked it up to a learning experience......I learn the hard way.

On a lighter note, stripped the donor motor down today. Very clean inside and shows little wear, not bad for a hundred bucks!

That sucks on the outboards coming off the wall. The motor looks real clean inside.

Don't store the Chevy motor on the wall, bgc.

Really clean! Did you try to fire it up before the tear down?

Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain

The entire motor was as clean a the pics above, except the exterior of the block.

GA, I did not start it up. The donor boat was trashed and the blocks 34 years old, I didn't want to take a chance.
She is showing wear on the rod and crank bearings and it gives me an excuse to play in the shop. Plus imagine all the HP I'll gain by punchin her out .030

She may be 34 years old, but she doesn't look like it. Has to be a low hour motor.

Yeah or someone actually performed preventative maintenance on it.

The valves had a light coat of oil on them, looked like it had been fogged. They took care of the motor but the amount of raccoon poop in the hull, the boat was not.
