Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain

Thanks, everyones doing great.
I getting antsy to get this boat seaworthy and some more of the old Mercs restored.
Is it too early for Andrew's 1st impeller? NEW it'd kinda sorta be a safe teething ring, right?

I need to drag a running 1969-71 65hp Merc out of the back of my storage/shop space at work & give it some much needed attention as well.......

I like this idea! One of the giant Volvo impellers should work....:)

I have a 1965, 65hp in the collection, Damn things are heavy! Took two us us to hang it on the rack for the winter

Holy Smokes! You risked buying a boat, without the Admiral's authorization...while she was pregnant? I'm thinking the new name is obvious..."Constant Peril"

Congrats on the new additions!

Yes, I did and she still doesn't know about her and Thank You!........ Do you think the name would be too pretentious and anger the gods? How about "DogHouse"? :joyous:

Alright! Getting back into it, going to be a slow process till new First Mate can work a saws-all......

After seeing WW's progress on his Chief, I have ordered the paint. I went with an Acrylic Urethane in White and a Clear topcoat.

The engine is scheduled to go into the Machine Shop later this month

I've been doing a good job hiding it so far....but the pier pressure is getting to me.

Good luck.

A finned 15-16ft tinny popped up @Cleveland over the weekend, but I figured you're hidden tin quota might already be full

It will be interesting to see how the lacquer clear coat goes on over the acrylic paint.

Can you use the catalyst hardener in the clear too?

Good point, bgc. :)

Good question - I've been wondering a while. Hardener should also help improve leakability too. :joyous:
