That is how far you have to throttle forward (and backwards) to get a throttle response. Cabling adjustment of some sort?

Floor is out!



I've also managed to get the old foam out, grind down glass where need be, and vacuum.

The floor support pictured with the two holes in it also had an unfortunate incident with my foot. :facepalm:Oh well, more to fix!

As promised, more pics. One of the things that will be improved: the previous decking wasn't tabbed in very well, leaving a channel visible in the carpet. Also not to great for drainage.





Good news was that although this gouge existed everything was sealed very well. No water damage.

Made a template of the floor before removing it. Also noted any areas on the cardboard that may need adjusting.

Sawzall, circular saw, jig saw, and grinder...











Everything came out quite nicely. Was able to remove all the decking that needed to be, clear out the old foam, cut and grind glass out, and clean a bit.

I did manage to ruin one of the floor supports by stepping on it. No worries... will fix!

Plan for the next day or two: extensive cleaning of new bulkhead areas (acetone) and cutting some wood! Hopefully be glassing by Friday or Saturday!

Cutting and test fitting new supports, etc...

I managed to break the memory card for my camera. And... I have about 1.5 sheets worth of partially cut marine ply that I was hoping would work for the deck. Just calculated, non of it will work because it was all cut inefficiently.

Fail. (Not by me)

On a good note: new carpet and expanding foam is en-route. Resin in hand (hopefully enough), and I'll get a full sheet of ply tomorrow for the deck.

Those are not bulkheads, those are box spring bed slats.

Yup, I know. I just haven't cut them yet. Got tired last night.

Cutting bulkheads and decking today at some point.I'm planning a bulkhead for the front and middle slats. The rear slat already has one.

Thanks. So far this thing is quite easy to work on. Also helps that the stringers were in great shape. I'd still be grinding if they weren't!

UGH! Was all set to start (finish?) glassing everything in tonight and low and behold... bad resin.

Going to have to hope the local boat repair shop will sell me some at a reasonable price or I'm S.O.L. until late next week at best.

Bummer.

What are people's thoughts on thinning resin with 10% acetone? I bought a bunch of resin locally that I thought was going to work, but it is THICK! (Also waxed, but I don't mind a little sanding)

Would this work and make my life a bit easier using this resin? Conversely if I order laminating resin online it takes forever to get and is obviously more $$.

I don't know for sure but I think I saw WOG post on another thread that this is a bad idea. Sorry to hear you're having problems with your resin.

Yeah, I found all the various threads on the topic.

Just sent my scantily clad wife over to the boat repair shop to beg for five gallons. Told her anything goes as long as I don't know about it.

Thinning resin with acetone can significantly weaken the strength of the chemical bond. It messes with the physical properties of it. Typically you can add 3 to 5% and not notice a big difference, but as more is added the resin can become brittle, plus less water and UV resistant, not properties you want in a resin or gel coat.

You can use waxed resin as long as all your lams are wet on wet... that is, you lay the next layer of mat/cloth before the resin has fully cured on the previous layer. If not then you will have to sand and wash down with acetone. Laying wet on wet is actually the preferred method for ALL applications of laminating fiberglass. You get a much better contiguous melding of the chemical structure of the resin which yields a stronger layup.

Side topic: I need to clear out the engine compartment to continue my deck repair. One of the items in my way is the gas tank.

Is there anything special I need to do to disconnect it? Right now the only things connected to it are the fill tube, line to the fuel pump, what I assume is a vapor vent, and the wiring for the gauges.

Obviously I have the battery completely disconnected already. Just wondering if there is any other items I need to handle before pulling it.

Another side topic: wth is this? A tube running in the engine compartment connected to drains on the hull from low on the starboard side, under the engine, and back out low on the transom. Not connected to anything in between.
